Neither. It's been a few years but when I was there for the last HFC open house I made sure to ask a couple different employees what was used. They confirmed it was a CAB urethane. Not sure what they are using now as the company that made it is out of business. Hamer phased out nitrocellulose 1991/92-ish.

Does anyone know if the monaco elite is nitro or poly?

All Hamer's get a hybrid nitro/poly finish, if I remember it correctly from the Hamer dvd!

jol called it a "hybrid acetate based finish... very similar to nitro..."

he says it about 4:34 here:

CAB (cellulose acetate butyrate) urethane uses a chemical hardener and does not yellow or crack like nitrocellulose lacquer. A former coworker of mine worked at the IL and CT shops told me what the finish schedule was while he worked there and was what the guys I talked to at the last open house told me was the same thing-no nitro. It doesn't exactly match up with what Jol had reported was the finish schedule. I don't know if they changed thing up since the open house or if Jol was doing some marketing speak since nitro. has a certain gravitas? I do know that their finisher Gary said to me "I don't get why people love that nitro. stuff so much".

That said I don't think it really matters. Their finishes are thin and look great.
