  1. Is this one of those rare rosewood topped lp customs?
  2. This is my current #1... PRS HB2 artist package with rosewood neck and brazilian board:
  3. well, my father was a professional country musician waaaaayyyy back when in the 40's and 50's. in fact, he appeared several times on the old Midwestern Hayride program (which was later replaced by Hee Haw). somewhere in the 60's he started managing music stores and from there went on to run his own store for many years... it was a really cool place to hang out while i was young and growing up... all through the 70's... i ran into a LOT of cool musicians (it was in the college town of Muncie, Indiana and was called Rocky's Music Center)... many of which were kind enough along the way to give me some tips now and then. somewhere in the late 70's i took some theory lessons from a local guy, a fantastic player with a real 59 les paul by the name of Skip Frye (who later moved to florida and is now listed on the Blues Hall of Fame website): http://www.blueshalloffame.com/Local_Blues_Talent/Local_Blues_Talent_of_Florida.html from there i just kept playing in bands and learning from other musicians... and also continued to be self-taught from books, tapes, whatever i could get my hands on. in fact, i still do that from time to time (mostly youtube now). it was a cool way to grow up and i have really enjoyed playing guitar for many years now - and i met some great players along the way! some were pro, most were just local players... which i found could mostly play better than most of the pro players.
  4. mine is a reference to john lennon's reference to paul in "how do you sleep"... the sound you make is muzak to my ears... but i spelled it a bit differently
  5. you were correct sir! you should be able to send me something now.
  6. well, you could just wire it to where you have Bridge humbucker... Bridge and Neck single coil... and Neck humbucker... then no mods required and you got a great "quack" in the middle position! a bit limiting... but still getting some use out of the unbuckers!
  7. well, Jon Herington (Steely Dan) certainly changed his pickups out on his Tally Pro... i believe he went with Fralin unbuckers? that gave me more Fender-esque tones... which made me wonder... why didn't he just go with a regular Tally? but, he does get some pretty good sounds out of it the way he's got it set up. check this out... there was another video of him onstage with Jol and talking about the mod's he made to his Tally Pro... but i can't find that video for some reason.
  8. OMG so YOU'RE the one! LOL... i remember when that hit their website and i was getting ready to call in and ask how much... and before i knew it - GONE! looks amazing! how does it play/feel? congrats my friend!
  9. Thanks guys! i see my custom built Tally made it into a couple of posts here. i've been out of work for a little while now and i honestly thought i was going to have to sell it for a while there... but i'm glad i did not! the one killer thing that stands out on my guitar (at least to me) is the DARK brazilian fingerboard! i remember when i ordered it... i asked them for a dark brazilian board with consistent color and no "odd streaks" running through it. so, when i first saw them post the guitar on their work shop blog (which is where the 2nd pic above came from) i was shocked... because i thought they had made a mistake and used ebony instead! as it turned out... it's the DARKEST piece of brazilian rosewood i have ever seen on a "new" guitar neck... and it also has this wonderful sweet chocolate sort of smell to it. you would have to see it up close to believe it! it's a stunning piece of fingerboard wood. it was in the hamer workshop blog that i also learned that Jol himself had referred to my guitar as "The Nightfire Tally"... so that name has always stuck... and that's stil what i call it from time to time. it was one of the last guitars Jol himself actually worked on before he left. anyway... thanks guys! just for the fun of it... if you want a bit more history... i got the idea for this guitar after seeing 2 guitars... one was a previously custom built Tally in sort of a Tiger Eye finish... and the other - believe it or not - was a custom built 59 historic Les Paul. so... when i custom ordered this guitar... i sent them these 2 pics (along with several others) for references: so can you see where i got the idea now? i just thought you guys might enjoy seeing these pics as part of the history of the birth of this guitar. i think they pretty much NAILED what i was going for... don't you? I WISH I ALSO OWNED THE TIGER EYE TALLY ABOVE AS WELL!
  10. now THIS guitar deserves a TRIPLE WOW! very nice sir!
  11. my Triple Threat may not count... but my Talladega is a true custom order... and she be loaded... even the case!
  12. man!... great score! and i think it's gonna look just killer in natural! a single neck PAF would be since too! i'll be anxious to see what it looks like when it's all done and comes to life! congrats!
  13. If you like Hamer enough to be a member of this board, why do you have other non-Hamer guitars? (I know why I do, but I want to know why *you* do) i don't mean this in a disrespectful way... but this one - to me - is a bit of a silly question. simply put... we are all lovers of guitars here right? and hamer isn't the ONLY brand... but it is a very good brand! also, not all of my "other" guitars are big brand names... a "vinetto" for example. Do you want more Hamer USAs? yes... i'd LOVE to have more... and i'm currently thinking about another custom order... OR i've also had my eye on this custom built "studio custom" for a while. Do you only buy them when the price is irresistable? no... in fact, i probably paid a bit much for my Triple Threat... but it's a rare one (used in their catalogs for years to represent the studio custom line)... and i just had to have it. also... i own the "night fire" tally that everyone seemed to like as it was being displayed via pics on the workshop blog. trust me, it wasn't cheap. i did buy one of my hamers at what i thought was a great used price... but that doesn't drive my thinking of how/when i buy a hamer. Do you only want certain types of Hamers? well... for the most part i'd say yes... i LOVE studio customs mostly. i really like the tally a lot too. i "might" consider a vector at some point... but i'm not much on the "pointy" guitar thing. All specs being equal, does the name "Hamer USA" on a guitar make you more likely to buy it? All specs being equal, does *not* having the name "Hamer USA" make you less like to buy a specific guitar? i have to be honest about this one and say Yes... the USA logo's got to be there for me. What would make you restrict your collecting to only Hamers? Is that even possible? i'm not sure this would be possible with me (ref: the first question) What could make you willing to restrict yourself to playing only Hamers? Is that even possible? i doubt this would be possible for me. Do you consider yourself a Hamer collector more than a guitar collector or vice versa? not really... i own mostly hamers right now... but i don't think of myself as a collector of hamer or any other type of guitar. i'm simply a guy that enjoys a good guitar. Do you consider yourself a guitarist more than a guitar collector? yes Would you say that a Hamer USA is a necessary part of a professional/serious guitarist's guitar stable? If so, which one(s)? no... musicians are artists... and we are all "inspired" by different things. NO guitar should be part of a "stable" of instruments in my mind. you should simply have the guitar(s) that enable you to do what you do. can you imagine if a painter were limited to a certain brush or color? the concept is silly right? look at jisham for example... you typically don't immediately think of a music man axis as a southern rock image right?... but it really FITS him and he just KILLS with it right? he's using the tool that works best for him... and that's the way it should be. one should NOT be limited to a typical les paul just because rossington played one. it's a silly concept right? or to be limited to a strat just because you're playing the blues... again, silly (in my opinion). actually... the tally is a completely MEAN blues guitar! Would you say that a professional/serious guitarist should stick to one brand? Why or why not? no... see answer above.
  14. to the top... and lowered price again $90... paypal'd and shipped!
  15. the custom case looks like this (and is NOT for sale! lol)
  16. i bought a custom built hamer talladega along with a custom built case. the gutiar was shipped to me in a standard talladega case because my custom case wasn't finished yet (it shipped later). so, here's a nice like-new case for someone: It's made for a Talladega (note: Tally not for sale): But, in a pinch could EASILY be used for a Les Paul or Hamer Studio Custom (note: guitars not for sale) if a few soft clothes were placed around the edges. $90 Shipped... paypal accepted... CONT USA ONLY thanks
  17. greg, that is just amazing! you do some FINE work sir!
