Tunage Choice To Ensure All Variables R Right

Question

Like many of youse, I have a "stereo" that is, by most standards, really big. Loud but oh-so-clear. It requires that I input info that tells the box all the distances between me and the 6+ speaks such that the sweet spot is nothing less than just right, just as perfect as I can pull from the system in this big room. I want it perfect, or at least as close as I can. I know I'm getting close when my nips start to get pointy-hard. And thus my question.....

If you were to rearrange your sound, your room, what music would you play to check the results?

MLS Psuedo Random Pink Noise for speaker allignment and positioning in the room, as well as checking for room reflections & standing waves.

And THX surround sound setup.

I know its ego-maniacal but I usually play one of the albums I recorded because I know what it "should" sound like.

Then I like to play other albums I know really well and love. I have always set up my room so that I can get an isosceles triangle between one chair and my 2 stereo speakers for ideal listening. There can be no obstructions.

Surround sound is too complicated for me....I only have 2 ears!

Yup. ^^^^^

If you don't have accurate test gear, having an album you absolutely know, is the next best thing.

I usually play Yes' "Turn of The Century", but I played out in bands from '78 to about '96 so my hearing isn't audiophile qulaity anymore :D
