Anyone here using one of these? How do you like it, how are you using it, as modeler or your effects board? Do you get good classic Marshall JCM sounds out of it? All the sound clips at the L6 site are either very clean or overly done new metal sounds. I'm interested to hear if the good classic 70's / 80's marshall sound can come from one before buying it.

I have a POD 2.0. I recently tried out the PODXT. The clean sounds are great and it does good with lots of distortion and the effects are pretty good. It has a JTM 45, a Plexi, and JCM amp model on both units. It really does not do a very good job of emulating the JTM and Plexi tones. The only thing that I could see was really an advantage of the PODXT is that it gives you more control over the effects other than that I did not see any real advantage over the POD 2.0. To me the amp models on the 2.0 sound better than the PODXT. I tried using both PODS live through a PA. The clean sounds were good but the distortion sounds were a bit lacking. One thing that I had a problem with was that I would program the POD at home and it sounded pretty good but when it was running through the PA it did not sound so great. I also had problems with the levels of the different programs. It was hard to get all the levels fairly even.

I think the PODS are great for practice and home recording but using them live is not so great.

I tried both the XTLive and the Boss GT-8. Clean sounds on both are good. Dist. sounds

on the GT-8 especially the MS-sounds are much better imo. The biggest benefit on the GT-8

for liveplaying is the flexibility. You can assign the footswitches to your needs.

I use my GT-8 for live in manual-mode, it's like you have two amps and a lot of

stompboxes, direct in the pa. You'll find good information about both units in the user forum www.bossgtcentral.com.

I haven't tried the POD XT, but I bought the Vox Tonelab and think it's incredible. It pretty much delivers the actual feel of a tube amp, which is where most modelers fail.

I'd like to add one thing to my previous post about the Vox Tonelab: Although this thing sounds great, all of the factory presets are horrible. However, you can program all of your own sounds into it. So if you try one out, don't judge the unit by the factory presets.

If U like versatilty the Pod XT Live is a good choice. Also not bad for NU metal stuff. But I´m also more in blues and classic rock and prefer analog sounds by far. Therefore only one recommendation for overdrive / distortion: Tech 21 Sans Amp GT 2. Have a look on their website, they have nice mp3 samples. Especially with tube amps the GT 2 rocks. Buy an additional pedal board and some Boss (Noise Gate, Chorus, Delay) and Ibanez (Tubescreamer) pedals and U have classic rock

I bought a PodXT, but ended up returning it. The only thing I really liked about it was the bassman model. The distortion sounds sounded really grainy. I ended getting the GT-6 instead. Well now, the GT-6 is collecting dust. But I still think it sounds better than the PodXt. They are now selling the GT-6 for $299 @ musiciansfriend.

Actually now, I'm using the Yamaha MagicStomp I, which I got for $89. You can check out audio samples here...

hey E9,

are you using that direct into the PA, or into your reverend amps?
