edrock Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Price drop - now $700 cash local (or near local) pickup, $750 shipped lower 48 & paypalled. Submitted for your perusal is this lovely example of a Spruce top, Mahogany back & neck '97 DuoTone natural, sporting an elegant Rosewood fretboard. I bought this right here on the HFC. It's in very good condition for a guitar going on 14 years old, in fact it's in better shape than many new guitars at GC. Not that that's really saying much, but hey. Some light pick scratches on the top, some very light scratches on the back, some very minor Hameritis on the sides of the nut & where the neck joins the body. It is all original to the best of my knowledge, comes with the original Hamer case (also in VGC), and has no issues. I've gigged this guitar a few times, jammed with it many times, and it never fails to amaze people with the great acoustic sounds. I even had a custom blend pedal built to sweep seamlessly between the humbuckers through my pedal board to my tube amp at one end, and the piezo straight to my acoustic amp at the other. And as many of you know, there's nothing quite as cool as the feeling of air blowing out the sound holes onto your arm while you're wailing away on a solo! I've come to the conclusion that I still prefer long scale guitars and fat necks, so this one's gonna go down the road to help fund my latest binge of irresponsible gear splurging. Shame on me, I know. I'm trying not to buy that beautiful spruce top Standard with the TV Jones now. Please wish me luck, or better yet - buy it before I do. Click Here to be transported through the miracle of the Webbernets to a photo gallery of artsy-fartsy shots taken on location in the backyard of my own private Hooterville Estate. As usual, my cheap camera is well matched to my lack of skills, but you'll get the idea. You are encouraged to click on your favorite shots to select them into the main viewing area, where you can roll your mouse over them to select larger sizes. Scrutinize to your hearts content, as it were. Here's a few teaser shots for ya. *No Guitars were in any way harmed, harrassed or abused during this photo shoot, but some trees, leaves, twigs and at times even the sky and sun were made to suffer feelings of inadequacy by the sheer beauty of the Hamer at hand. I'd like to recoup most of the $800 I shelled out for this lovely piece, so let's say $800 double boxed, shipped insured FedEx ground to any of the lower 48 of these great United States. If you're elsewhere on this big blue marble (and the gummint sez I can ship to ya) I will do my best to accommodate you. BUT. It'd be neighborly of y'all to paypal in US dollars, and pay the actual shipping, fees, duties, yadda yadda yadda in addition to the asking price. Enough yackin. Thanks for looking, and have a good one.

Brooks Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 whats lost on most folks is what great rawk and jazz tones are inside these. amazing guitars, even if there was no acoustic output.
edrock Posted October 30, 2010 Author Posted October 30, 2010 whats lost on most folks is what great rawk and jazz tones are inside these. amazing guitars, even if there was no acoustic output. Thanks for the bump, Brooks. Ain't it the truth? My buddy has a Gibson Custom Shop 336 he pees his panties over on a regular basis. Don't get me wrong - it's a fine guitar - but the DuoTone's construction is quite similar (back & sides carved from a single piece & a solid top, unlike the 339s or 335's - also fine guitars - with separate sides & back and a laminated top). Personally, I prefer the DT. I find it's more comfortable to play and has just as fine an arsenal of rock, blues, indy and jazz tones lurking behind those three little holes . . . . and you have enough money left over for a really nice early Silverface Vibrolux Reverb and another Duotone!
edrock Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 Some interesting trade offers coming in, but cash is king! Help a brutha pay off last weeks gear splurge & land some Hamer goodness at the same time. Win/win, fellas.
carfish7 Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Few Duo-noob questions for you from the peanut gallery; What do you need to use this with 2 amps? Dual outputs, right? Can you blend both signals through one output? How much compromise where attack/sustain is concerned wailing through the mags but over a plastic bridge (gentle breeze across arm notwithstanding)? I always have trouble picturing the electric side of the question being optimal, but please tell me otherwise. At 5.9 on a scale, am I to assume that these are fully chambered? I had an Artist Studio that was half-hollow-ish but wasn't that light. Are you able to venture somewhat into the warmer, woody realms of the 335/Newport family on his thing due to the construction? Does it sustain and bloom or is it a bit "plinky"? My Artist Stu was more bright than warm - maybe the Duncans had something to do with that, too ('59's as I recall). It's November, so I'm after some warmth! (and have been considering a semi-hollow and a piezo-equipped solidbody to complete my toolbox). Thanks in advance for any Duo-Schooling that might come my way, and if this is a bad place for this query, mods feel free to shove it (where it belongs. The post, that is).Z
edrock Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 It's got two separate outputs, so you either run two cables or get a y cable. Or, do what I do and use two wireless units. (I'm always tripping over my cord, I love wireless.) I use an Ernie Ball 6165 stereo volume/pan pedal (two inputs, two outputs) to take the two signals and route them to the two amps. The only issue with the EB is that in the middle position you only get 50% of each signal. This works fine for panning from full acoustic to full electric, but the even mix of the two is at a lower level of both. I remedied this by having the pedal modified with a different blend potentiometer that gives the full 100% of both signals in the middle. Works beautifully. That custom blend pedal is available as well. I've got about $100 in it, including the mod. Without the pan pedal, you can use the controls on the guitar to select and blend. I detect no compromise on the electric side due to the bridge, which kind of surprised me. As Brooks pointed out above, these gits stand tall on the merits of the electric side alone. It's a hot humbucker mama, and gets lots of compliments on the lead tones. To my ears it's warm & sustainy, which contrasts very well with the acoustic side. Hamerhead jammed with us & heard it's siren song, maybe he or some of the DT owners will chime in with their impressions. It's classified as a semi hollow, so it's certainly more than just chambered. I wish I had a bigger gear fund (c'mon lottery!) cuz I wouldn't mind keeping it around. Unfortunately, the gear fund is undeniably finite, and it's time to pay off last months ridiculous splurge-a-thon. I need that emoticon of the guy beating himself over the head with a hammer here....
