Jimbilly Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 An '84 Proto II, pretty rough, maybe a 5 or 6 out of 10, w/ case. Dark Gray finish, Black kahler, frets ok, but the neck had a little funk right near the heel, like instead of a constant curve, the curve gets tighter at the high frets and a lot of dead spots in the 16-20 frets. It could likely be dressed/filed out, but I don't know for sure. The pawn guy came down to $250+ tax, that was SO close for me, I would've taken it for $250. I know I know; $250 for a USA Hamer... What would you have done? I was explaining the neck problem to the pawn guy, he huffs at me: "I've got 12 guitars, and I've been playing for 15 years, and this neck is fine", I kept my responses to myself.
cmatthes Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Heck - Ya coulda parted it out and MADE $250! Sell the Kahler, pickups, tuners and the remaining body/neck hulk - $500 easy, and that's if it doesn't have a case!Seriously? That's not a bad deal for a quick fixer-upper. Those Protos are pretty nice geetars. The necks on most of them are a little thin for me, but there aren't many more versatile axes out there than that Phantom/Proto 3 coil combo. If you like that sort of thing, that is.

What would you have done? Wait...wait...wait...you mean to tell me that you passed on a guitar over a difference of about $10? Jesus Christ, you are without a doubt the cheapest guy around! LOL!! Even DavidE would have bought that guitar. HAHAHA. You seriously walked over $10? $10 friggin dollars? Lord have mercy... And we wonder why our Hamers don't hold resale.
Jimbilly Posted September 7, 2005 Author Posted September 7, 2005 Poe; I know that if I didn't say no once in a while, I'd have 50 guitars instead of just over 20, and it was a difference of about $23, so there! That guitar has been passed over by several other NW hfc'rs, it's been there at least 2 years. I've been unsure of how bad that neck issue it, I haven't dealt w/ it before. I looked really closely, and now that I've thought about it, I'm pretty sure it would file out, maybe I'll get back there again soon. Last time I was there, I bought a very nice Chap 4 bass in ferrari-red/Granite for $199, it had one wire soldered to the wrong spot in the innerds, -not a bad deal if I may say so.
Nathan Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 There was a Proto II at Atomic Music up in MD (College Park). Beat to shit in that same grey/green finish. Serial number was ink and all but worn off. 1983 IIRC. $300. Why am I realating this tale? No idea.
kurtsstuff Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Umm...it's worth $273.00 even in pieces....damn....CHEAPSKATE!!!!! hehe
pesocaster Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 I playd this thing and passed on it twice .... it looked to have serious neck issues... and the thing is in generally sad shape...... would cost more that what it's worth to make it a solid player again.... Was I still tempted? .... well yea... I just don't have the time to invest into it....
