The Hamer out of phase Hollow Lead wiring

Disturber

Question

I put a set of old 70's Dimarzio PAF's in my new Super Pro. Put two Duncan covers on them from my Antiquites, it looks great. Both pups are bridge pups. One measures 8.2 mA, the other about 8.15mA.

If I remember correctly one is from an old Hamer, not sure were I got the other one from. They sound pretty much the same though. And it works fine to have one at the neck, "no problemo" as Arnold would say.

These pups are just right for the Super Pro with their Paf like single coil quality and the fact that they are not potted. They sound much more open and 3d like than the Seth that was in it before. Not to far from Antiquties, better or not is up the one who is listening I guess. Personally I love 'em!

However, as I was wiring them up (not that easy in a Super Pro), I accidentally soldered the hot lead to ground on the neck pup, (kids was running around my legs, I got distracted for a minute).

So now it is wired out of phase. It turns out this was just 100% right for this guitar, it sounds killer with both pups on - in classic Hamer Hollow Lead mode :o .

I experience the effect with both pups vol. on 10 to be much stronger than on the old Sunbursts however. When I turn the vol on the bridge pup down to about 7 I get the Sunbursts more subtle effect of the out of phase mode. Not that it is a problem, I am just curious about this.

As I understand it, soldering one wire to ground instead of hot should be the same as flipping the magnet - right? This is the way Hamer did it on the old Sunbursts, (I just checked my untouched 1979).

Someone wrote once here, perhaps Greg, that the Dimarzio Hamer pups also had a special recipe for how they were made to achieve this effect. Anyone know if this is true? If so, what is the difference in the internal wiring of the coils, or magnet orientation?

Should I keep it wired as it is, or is there a better set up for installing two HB pickups in the classic Peter Green/Hamer way?

I have one of my sunbursts rewired with a pushpull - but never use it.

Thanks. Yeah, I remember that card. It was not called hollow lead in the mid position as I remembered. But "Funk", "Midrange 1" and "Brilliant" - I'd say , that's just brilliant! :(

edit: the schematic is not correct for a 70's Sunburst. They are wired, three wire leads, with one pup white and braid to ground and black to hot, the other humbucker black and braid to ground and white to hot. That is how they achieve the out of phase function. Turning the magnet in one pup would be the same. Still curious to if the old Hamer paf's were made with a secret recipe for this this though? No one?
