tomteriffic Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Got some household toys to get and since the serious household stuff is putting a crimp in the budget, I need to move some stuff to pay for the toys. So...ESP 400 series Tele from about 1984. USA-made, patterned after a '60's Tele Custom (bound top and back). 3 color burst.Overall very good to excellent condition, one ding just below the control plate, otherwise just very light normal wear..Since it was the '80's here are the mods: EMG Model T pickups with phase switch added, 3 piece brass barrel saddles replaced with 6 saddle bridge (I may have the original around someplace), and a Hipshot B-bender/D-dropper which required no routing or other funny business.(Added later:) Oh, and the original tuners were replaced with Grover minis, put on on a slant so it's easier to see which key you're grabbing. This is a serious twang-banger and was my go-to Tele until I got my T-51. Generic plastic HSC included (ding in one corner, but fine for toting this thing around).Pix later on after I dig it out of Buzzard Gulch, which presently looks like a Guitar Center warehouse.I'd like to clear $400 out of this after everything, but I'm open to reasonable offers. PayPal OK if you pick up the fee.
stonge Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Please dig it out and send me some photos (stongemon at aol dot com). I am very interested in this one. Could use something twangy with EMGs lol...
cmatthes Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Those '80s ESP Teles are right up there with the Fernandes and Tokai stuff of that period. In MOST cases, I liked them better than the Fender stuff of that era. Every bit as good as some of the '80s F3ND3RS I've played.
DavidE Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I had a baby blue ESP 400 strat. LOVED that guitar except for the 7 1/4" fingerboard radius.Your tele sounds like a stupid cheap deal with the mods. Killing me not to buy it but I would never learn how to use a b-bender. Or would I???
tomteriffic Posted September 8, 2005 Author Posted September 8, 2005 Compared to my at the time lead singer's '82 Strat, this smoked it.Dave, this one is pretty easy, but the real fun is when you use it to help you do multiple bends a-la Amos Garret. But, easy to set up and the E-dropper is handy too.
tomteriffic Posted September 8, 2005 Author Posted September 8, 2005 OK, some pix. More available if you need 'em. I *think* this has the 9" radius. Doesn't feel like a 7 1/2 and bends too easy without choking out.
cmatthes Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Wait - I totally missed the Bender part! Damn. That's a GREAT deal!!!
DavidE Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Freaking HFC Email function....Tried to email you.I'll take it. Why? I don't know. I wanna play cuntry. I already do. I wanna play around with the bender.
DavidE Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 One email every 15 minutes? Why the limitation?I did forget to ask one question...Is it heavy???I just can't do heavy guitars anymore. I have bursitis and arthritis in my left shoulder that started causing some pretty constant pain 2 months ago. A heavy guitar on a strap hurts.
DavidE Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 He says it's not. So, it stays in Ohio. Can't wait to bender.
