seeker Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Heh all,I remember this being discussed when they came out, but does the Elite have a LP type tonality to it? Or at least more so than the Studio?I know, if you want an LP tone, get an LP (or a Heritage;), but was just wondering. I don't want a Gibson and Heritage doesn't make what I'm thinking on doing. Thanks,Dave
BCR Greg Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Not enough for me to keep mine.... A buddy has it now, since I can never let my custom guitars get TOO far away. Great guitar, but a different beast than a Les Paul.
phoenix Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 way more than a studio. the neck joint measurements put the LP halfway to a strat. unique sound. more versatile to my ear. I ab'd these two. both are about 8.2lbs, lp has 59 PAFs and wiring, 8.2 8.8. elite has the paf copies wound for JP. 8.27 8.7. HHB can chime in. the lp uh lost. seemed thin and inflexible, lacked harmonics. Never would have believed it as my Lp is unbelievable. BUT they are constructed differently. I wouldnt compare an lp to a strat either. If you are around in two weeks. I'll be selling the elite 35% off dealers discount, which was 30% off list. shipping included
tbabinec Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 To pursue the question, what accounts for the difference? By all appearances, on the surface they are similarly constructed - mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, mahogany body, maple cap. The neck join is different, the angle of the neck to the body is different, pups are different, bridge and tailpiece are similar(?). If you took a Monaco and LP of similar weight and used the same pickups, say, SD Antiquity humbuckers, would they produce similar tones?
adferreira Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 I thought that the Hamers were thinner bodied? If true, that would account for some of the dif.
Guest big steve Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 well, from another thread,it seems that prs will be makeing their single cut again soon, anybody have the lowdown/comparison on those vs monaco and lp?
jisham Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 well, from another thread,it seems that prs will be makeing their single cut again soon, anybody have the lowdown/comparison on those vs monaco and lp? Having owned a few Monaco Elites, a bunch of Les Pauls and now four Singlecuts, I can unequivocably say they are all different animals. Best to go play them all yourself and see which one floats your boat.I prefer the more modern tones I get from the PRS SCs personally. LPs are great but everyone knows you have to go through a bunch to find good ones. On the other hand, you can pick any Hamer or PRS and you're gonna get a good one in my experience.
mattb Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 "On the other hand, you can pick any Hamer or PRS and you're gonna get a good one in my experience. "Amen.
Guest hectorp2 Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I've been playing my Elite exclusively over the last several months. I would say it definitely gives the player more of the LP experience than the studio. Part of it is the mass of the guitar...I find myself gravitating to it...it offers some resistance to the physical act of playing...gives you a good platform for vibrato and so on.
