Hamer of the gods Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 You can play along with mp3's, slow things down and loop them and the sounds are really nice too. It uses the COSM amp presets and effects from the Boss GT-10. Definitely a nice tool for anyone who needs to learn songs or just jam at a "wifeable" volume or on headphones.
RobB Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Checked out the Boss site. Looks like a powerful transcription tool. Sez you can load in audio files via a thumb drive. Nothing about support for mp4 (AAC) files. Sux, as all of my digital media is encoded as such. You CAN import files from CDs via a computer, but that'll take buttloads of time...How is the quality of the slowed-down files? I'm assuming full WAV files will sound better, but have you used smaller, mp3 files (i.e. 128mb)? Smaller digital files tend to get a bit "messy" when slowed down. Thanks for the post. This seems a lot more practical than using transcription software on the laptop.
Steve Haynie Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 The eBand looked cool when it was announced, but I already had the Boss Micro BR. The Boss gadgets have been very helpful when learning songs.
Hamer of the gods Posted July 7, 2011 Author Posted July 7, 2011 It will do WAV files but not AAC files, the MP3s do "smear"a bit when slowed down, about the same as Amazing Slow Downeror the Tascam Trainer, which I also have, for me it's nicethat it's all one unit and I don't have to use my laptop and a guitar amp or the crappy sounds in the Tascam. The presets are nice and you can toggle between two via footswitch as wellas start and stop playback.
Hamerhack Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Thanks for the review. That's another "one of these days" items I'd like to have. Here's a review in Premiere Guitar
SteveB Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 I thought those things looked kinda cool but not $400 cool, for me anyway. I'd be nice to have a small unit like that in my "secondary" practice area though, where I don't have my computers and audio gear.
mail4kev Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Well... I got one of these... its a great practice tool. And great for simple recording to hear what those riffs you play actually sound like. I actually put it next to my bed. It'd be perfect if it had a clock and alarm as well. LOL!It sounds much better through headphones though. The in built speakers are kinda weak. But its not meant to be an amp replacement. For what its supposed to do, it works great. Kev

Or preserves tempo and adjusts pitch. Really helpful for me.
