My wife - the little scamp - can't take a clear picture to save her a$$. Being the primary photographer at gigs (the only wife that shows up regularly), this creates a small problem - we need something to put on our website.

Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

That was last night. Good crowd, fun gig - nothing for the website. Since about 80% of what she shoots look just like these, we need HELP!!

Are there any point-and-click, absolute no-brainer, small, throw-it-in-your-purse cameras out there that'll get us an occasional useable photo? I really hate missing these.

UPDATE - a little bit about the Nikon Coolpix P310, which arrived the other day:

The first thing I did straight out of the box was walk over to the basement stairs and push the button. The resulting picture (which I wanted to post but the camera is at the bottom of my wife's purse and I ain't going there) looked as though the steps were completely lit up, when in fact there was very little light at all. Same thing with a bathroom lit with only a nightlight. And that's with no flash and zero set-up/zero effort. Pretty amazing. I'm not a photographer and don't know all the nuances and such, but I think this will work out alright.

The camera itself is tiny - literally about half the size of my trusty old Kodak 4330 - but about 3/4 of the back is LCD screen. It's huge. The buttons are easy to use and pretty well laid out. Plus the lens cap is built-in (opens when on, closes when off), which is awesome.

Our next gig is next Saturday, so hopefully you'll see some results here. I like it a lot, she seems to like it, but we'll see in a week.

To be continued.........

Great review, HH! Thanks for the update and looking forward to the pics.

I just clicked the link. 16 Megapixels? Holy crap....

Are you breathing out at the moment you click the photo?

I usually hold my breath because her pictures stink.

But here's the down-the-stairs pic:

There's one covered window about 30 feet over from the bottom of the steps, and whatever ambient light behind me, but otherwise no lights/no flash/no messing with any settings. To the naked eye, it was dark down there. Pretty cool.

Nice pic. That camera should be capable of taking some good gig shots. I guess it works just as well in regular/outdoor/daytime shots too?
