Guitar building question with regards to a 2 or 3 piece body

Stumbled upon this video of a guitar build

starting around the 1 minute mark, he locates and drills holes for metal rods ( mentions that used metal for possible better vibration transference) dowels.

Is this how Fender and other makers join multi piece bodies??

Just curious, because I hadn't really thought much about it in the past

No.

Dude needs a router.

metal dowel rods? no. I would not do it.

Production companies just face the slabs of wood and glue them together then cut out the bodies for the most part.

So let's take a light, potentially resonant piece of wood and fill it up with metal and epoxy.

Like Jay said...get the edges smooth and square, glue them up, and cut the outline afterwards.

Do you think that if no glue was used, and wooden dowels were tapped snugly into place ( proir to cutting the body shape) it might result in greater transference, a more lively guitar??

Always had the desire but not the tools to build a guitar from scratch, and this video looked inspiring

No. Perfectly jointed edges would though, maybe he acheived that sanding on a fence like he did-maybe he didn't?

Me personally if I was going to scratch build a body there are plenty of options available to buy blanks that are glued, thicknessed and ready to bandsaw. If I was using salvaged pine like that I'd find a cabinet/wood shop to mill it and glue it up for me.

Jeezus, what a lash up, christ knows why he thought a couple of metal rods would help transfer the string vibration better - dangers of the internet i suppose.

If you want to make your own and don't own a router may i suggest http://www.warmoth.c.../BodyBlank.aspx
