Help Troubleshooting power supply DG Stomp

Question

My DG stomp won't light up, worked fine the last time I used it. Loaned it to someone and hadn't plugged it in for a year since he returned it. So, the power supply is the primary suspect, since I get no lights at all. The power supply is rated at 12v output 1000 ma. I have a multimeter, don't really know how to use it :( . How do I test the power supply?

This is a regular wall wart supply? No accessable fuses on the supply or pedal?

Set the meter to Volts DC,

Plug the power supply into the wall

Assuming the supply is center hot, touch the black meter lead to the barrel of the supply output connector

Touch the red meter lead to the center of the supply output connector

If the supply is center hot you should see +12 volts on the meter; if not, you will see -12 volts.

My probe won't reach to the bottom of the barrel, I just have to touch the inside correct? and the power supply is labeled 12vac so I presume it is ac and not dc.

The power supply will have an input and output voltage rating. You are concerned with the output voltage.

If it says 12vac then set your meter for Volts AC, put one probe in the middle and one on the outside of the barrel. Provided you have 120 volts at the wall outlet you should read 12 volts on the meter.
