New guy has a few questions...

XTQuilt

Question

Posted

My new XT Quilt is on it's way. I saw it on ebay,so if any of you guys are wondering where it went.....! ;) A case was not included so, I'll ask where the best deal on a case might be found? This will be my first Hamer and I was disappointed to see the demise of the company. I've always been partial to the LesPaul double cut "look". I have a '81 Ibanez Artist AR300 but intend to make this XT the partner to my Strat for gigging.

My other question may touch a nerve here but it would really come in handy for my intended purpose. Has anyone added a Wilkinson vibrato? I'm not interested in a Floyd Rose mainly because of the additional "carving" required. And a Bigsby is just too much hardware on top. I just want the effect with the least amount of alteration. Any ideas?

Thanks!

-I attempted to post a pic but there was an error with the "extension"??

Welcome to the boards! The XT line is an excellent buy for the bug. I have been adding the Schaller LP tremolo to my Hamer MIK Standard for the same reason. Unfortunately, it is very hard to get int the US. So, I can't help you on the Wilkinson. Many people here have had great success replacing the stock OEM pickups with regular versions or other known replacement pickups. The same applies for the pots.

Show us what you've got. The quilts tend to be really nice looking.

As far as a case, any hardshell case designed for a Les Paul type guitar should work. The GC-1 that Hamer has used since the '70s is pretty much interchangeable with the Gibson 535-type case.

Thanks! Re:this quilt top,at first glance it almost looks like it's one solid piece as opposed to being bookmatched. It's one gorgeous guitar for sure. Are the pups 4 wire? Has anyone added coil splitters?
