rugby1970 Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Need help. Just received my used Hamer and I discovered that there is a chip missing from the finish on the edge of the fret board at the second fret. How can this be repaired? What's involved and how much?
rugby1970 Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 Pictures below. Hameritis all along that edge of the fret board?
BadgerDave Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Tape along the line where the board meets the neck, leaving the side of the fingerboard exposed along the full length of the neck. Then use sandpaper to remove the nitro finish from the edge of the entire fretboard. Remove the tape and feather the edge. It's easier than it sounds.
rugby1970 Posted January 18, 2013 Author Posted January 18, 2013 Really? I'm an engineer; I'm comfortable working with metal and plumbing. Motto: wood putty and paint makes me the carpenter I ain't. Luthier? Classic bull in a china shop.
BadgerDave Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 It helps that the nitro doesn't really bond with the rosewood. It comes off pretty easily. You can see the nitro separating along the edge of the fretboard in your photo. Might as well get rid of it all. Feels better too!
