tomteriffic Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 This evening I was on the honker with a friend that I don't see much in person. I hadn't seen him since a gig back in October. He's a dyed-in-the-wool Gibson guy but their recent quality and prices have been putting him off. Anyway, he hadn't forgotten my Vanguard that I was playing that night back in October and allowed as how it might be the perfect guitar for him, just by the way it sounded and a quick feel-up after the show.I could tell he was fishing around trying to buy mine, but it's not going anywhere. I told him that, while there aren't just a ton of them around, they do surface from time to time. He was amazed when I told him roughly what the going rate is and that got his interest even more. So, this is just a feeler. He's in the middle of paying for a built-to-order Kendrick, so it may be a while before he's ready to pull the trigger. So if you're on the fence about your Vanguard and need a little more quality time yet, give a shout and I'll hook you up.
django49 Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 I was (sorta) on the fence with mine. Have had it a long time. Liked the guitar, the pickups not so much. So tended not to play too much. But hard to let it go for as little as they go for. . Decided to take the plunge and upgrade to Wolfetones, Great improvement.....Now it is not going anywhere.Sorry about that, but it does underscore what a great and under-appreciated instrument it is. Good luck with the search.

Montelovesco Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 freue mich fur dich :)Is the boost effect a plus ? I was quit surprised to discover this function..The boost is cool, even if the switch is a little misplaced. It kicks the amp a little further without overdoing it. But I am still waiting for the new PUs...
ghamerinfrance Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Change the P90 ? which one do you choose finally ?
Montelovesco Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I'll put Lollars in - for the beginning. I have not much experience with upgrading PUs....
ghamerinfrance Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I do have a mahogany artist too (but custom order with ebony fretboard and binding) and am still thinking on the PUs to choose from (I need humbucker for the spacing). So still thinking...Either Burstbucker , Seth Lover or Duncan P-Rail...Not yet decided. In any case, a lot of fun with your vanguard....and good luck for finding another one.
Pierre07 Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I have one with P-rails(from a fellow HFCer), love it! Can go from hard crunch to sparkling smooth... by the way, how much does these beauties go nowaday?
ghamerinfrance Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Thanks, it seems the P-Rails offer a wider range of sounds...for the price range, I would say this differ from some simple Vanguard at 600 USD (I saw one here) to Mahogany Artist till 1000 USD (max according to the customisation...)..In Europe, there are offered for more but they remain mainly unsold, even if they definitely are worth the price.
