Working on a home made bass for a buddy [real mess] which has Hofner Beatle bass pickups.

I am needing some custom pickup rings made , be they plastic or wood, I am just not tooled up during the winter months to create a jig to cut them out.

Are there any quality makers on the forum ?

thanks !

Murkat made some custom pup rings for my vintage Guild small humbuckers, they came out quite nice. He basically cannibalized a couple of pickup rings to create an inner 'gasket' to fill the space. I'm not sure how he would go about creating the rings you need but he would be worth talking to IMO.

I'm looking to have them maybe an 1/8th thick , cut exactly for the Hofner pickup with a 1/2" border all the way around to hide the previous butchery done to the bass.

I thought Wenge or Bocote would look nice over the burled Walnut, which I would then make a pick-guard myself to match , or maybe some kind of plastic.. I'm open, just want to get them done and without issues. :(

I had a play at making some years back and it's wasn't quite as easy as i thought it would be, especially in the corners - mind you ebony probably wasn't the most forgiving wood to use plus at that age i didn't have a clue or tools, sharp one's anyway. It was a 70's store guitar that a mate had been given that someone had handpainted sort of pop art vs acid rock but like a woodgrain, anyway, in the end i cut up some normal plastic rings, after sanding them flat and a bit thinner, sliced them apart and re-stuck them together and then epoxied an ebony veneer on the top, looked alright from a distance.........................if you were drunk
