diablo175 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 The Godzilla Cali is not getting used so, something needs to be modded! The plan? Satin-ize the neck with the .0000 steel wool Swap out active Blackout p'ups for something better- thinking either something using the SD pre amp or something really sludgy and heavy like a Dimazio X2N or Invader. Other thoughts/ideas?
Scottcrud Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Which Blackout? I hate the AHB1 and AHB2. I've just picked up a AHB3 EMTY to check out. I've been told its super tight, like a EMG 81(which I actually like), but thicker and more output. An Invader will sludge it up for sure. waaayyy more than a X2N.
coolfeel Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Looks like we have the answer for who coined the phrase "Shredding"...in a literal kind of way...
diablo175 Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 Chip a Cali? Specifically the Godzilla Cali? Blasphemy!
diablo175 Posted June 7, 2013 Author Posted June 7, 2013 Additional mods: Lose the heavy duty noiseless springs and put in standard FR springs. Two of 'em. Stretched real far, in a V config, so as to make the Floyd go boingy boingy boingy, bdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbd real easy like. Scottcrud: Neither. With the Blackout pre-amp you can throw any passive in there you want and it retains the characteristics of that p'up but is supercharged by the preamp. Win win. I put a set of the Gus G Fires with the pre-amp in my Charvel Star and while I'm not crazy about the tone of the p'ups, it is far superior to the Blackouts CS put in there. Major mid range on them with nice highs but kinda blah low end. Needs tightening up IMO. If you bumped the lows and tightened them up you'd have winner with the Gus G Fires. The pre-amp is wicked cool, though and does help any p'up play easier by accentuating the response to input on the string i.e. picking, pinch harmonics, etc.
