diablo175 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 I have my own theory but they remain just that; conjecture based on limited experience and some info I have culled from the HFC threads. How does the Chap neck carve compare to a Diablo's?
coolfeel Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Although I cannot offer a comment referencing the difference between the 2 you have mentioned, it is my understanding that Chap necks vary depending on year. My 86 Chap has a very thin and narrow neck. After playing my other Hamers and plucking around on my 86 Chap, it is hard to believe I ever thought that neck was comfortable. I tend to like beefy necks these days. My custom Chap has a modern cave and is 1 11/16 at the nut. The Modern Carve has an unbelievabley comfortable profile without the neck being too thin for my taste.
Tres Aardvarks Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 I had a Diablo for a while, after I bought my first Chapparal. I got rid of it specifically because of the neck. The neck felt way too round, but with a flatter fretboard than the Chapparal..sound nuts, doesn't it? I'd have to go back and A-B them, but IIRC my Chap has a slightly chunkier neck than my Calis, with a less radiused fretboard. I could be smoking crack though.
RCM78 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 The two set neck chaps I had were D shape, fairly thin, and wide. 1 11/16's nut. The shoulder of the D shape made the neck feel larger then it was. My Diablo has a thin C shape neck. It's .81" at the first fret with a very even taper. 1 11/16's nut. All three guitars have a 16" fretboard radius.
