Turdus Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 I had not thought much about these guys since the late 70's. In a strange association, I was researching Mustang basses, and recalled that their bass player used one in the 70's. Did a search for the band, and ended up at:http://www.statusquo.comI had no idea that these guys never stopped playing, and they seem to have consistently put out albums since the late 60's. Does anybody here know enough about them to reccomend some of their better stuff? I used to have the 70's live album, which was decent. Some of their studio stuff sounds a bit silly.http://www.statusquo.com/clip.htmCheck out the video for "Whatever You Want". Sounds real good to me. Only two of the guys are original, and they appear to be playing the same Tele's they used from the early days. I was amazed at the size of the place they are playing in that video, as well as the cool Marshall amps.
princeofdarkness56 Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Status Qou are a pretty damn good boogie rock band and they are real big in Europe. They had one hit in the US in the 70's and then US radio forgot about them. I have a greatest hit cd that is actually good. Has about 15 songs on it and I enjoy it. I think the cover has them playing Tele's. For a harder edge I still prefer Foghat when it comes to that British Blues Boggie thing.
Disturber Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 "I had no idea that these guys never stopped playing, and they seem to have consistently put out albums since the late 60's. " I have, believe me, lol. I always thought Status Qou where a band that wrote the same song over and over again. And on top of that they never have the decency to quit. (They are worse than Deep Purple in that case). For christ sake they have never even written one song that is good. But then again I really hate pub rock. What the f--k is that really all about? Have you been to an English pub? Everyone is drunk. All interior is the same in every place, brown dirty and ugly with a yellow coat of cigarette smoke. They serve the beer luke warm and they fill the glasses above the rim so you always get your hand wet from beer when you try to drink. Then some loony tries to have a conversation with you and you can´t hear a bloody word he is saying because he is sluddering so much  The worst Status Quo song ever is their cover of "In the army now". Everytime I hear I'm looking for the nearest exit to get out of the room. But this is just my (sarcastic) opinion. Don't take offence
marcnorth Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 "And on top of that they never have the decency to quit. (They are worse than Deep Purple in that case)." All this coming from a guy who thinks The Ramones are cool.

All this coming from a guy who thinks The Ramones are cool. Not only did the Ramones quit. Three of them did it on a permanent basis, so to speak. And they where a cool band with great songs, at least their first albums on Sire. I like a lot of music but I just don't like Status Que. No need for anyone to take that personally. disturber
Turdus Posted March 16, 2005 Author Posted March 16, 2005 LOL.. I can no longer listen to the Ramones. I did mention that some of the Status Quo studio stuff sounds silly, and a search of their discography seems to back this... They have done at least one, if not two albums of covers, with the material being questionable, I am sure. I will look for a CD copy of the late 70's live album. That was my first intorduction to the band, and one that I remember as being fairly cool. The videos on their website have been changed overnight as well. They still have the same titles as yesterday, but the songs are different.
