RS Guitarworks wiring kits for bass

Has anybody used one of these? I've got a 1973 P Bass that I bought last fall, and it's a player moreso than a collector's piece, to put it mildly...it's been beat on and basically everything except the neck and body have been swapped from the original parts. I love the neck more than any other bass I've ever played though! The main thing I'm working on right now is the sound-I swapped a Bartolini pickup that was in it, which I think was kinda broken, to a Duncan Quarter Pounder. Not my favorite, but that kind of helped. I'm planning on swapping that with one of the new Aguilar Hot pickups. Now I think I need to investigate the wiring, because my Highway One P bass with stock wiring and a Dimarzio Model P just kills it in output and tone. The RS stuff seems really nice and isn't that expensive, and I really want this bass to sound as good as I know it can, what say ye oh HFC???

I'm sure if you costed them out, the parts of the wire, post and cap would be something

like $15. that said, I don't think throwing $20-$25 on top of that to have someone put it

together is all that unreasonable.

That said, I have a nice soldering station, and I do my own, I recommended some

checking out some soldering tutorials as well as build yourself a nice little fixture

(scrap wood at home depot works) where you can hold the assembly in place

and then drop it in your guitar.

Hey Dave, I'm pretty confident that I can solder everything just fine, do you have any experience with these parts as far as sound goes? Looking for feedback on differences/improvements in tone, sorry if my original post was confusing...

I have several of their kits and like them a lot. I have never bought a presoldered kit from them. I have taken it to my luthier and had him put them in. I really like the way that new parts make old things sound great.

YMMV.

I use CTS pots, switchcraft jacks and a variety of caps depending on mood (orange drops, paper in oil, not really into the uber

expensive stuff..) and vintage wire... have always been happy with CTS and a nice quality cap.

some people like 500K pots over 250K, and something like an .047 cap would be a good start. I get all my stuff at

www.theartoftone.com but there are other suppliers like mojotone that are also good.
