jamminpete Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Hello experts,I know some of the KK Downing V's ( very few) came with EMG's instead of the regular pick up that they come with.Does amyone know about when they started using EMG's for some of these? What year? Also, I was told that there where a few of these available in different colors including a natural flamed top. Does anyone know if this is correct?ThanksPete
serial Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 EMGs were never standard. Yes they came in different finishes. I owned a natural flametop with cherry back and sides like KKD's.
Andrew Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Hamer Slammer humbucker (11Kohm) was standard for most of the run, but EMG was an option for an up-charge after a year or so. So EMG would not apply to a particular time. All colours available, cherry and natural flame-tops are common but there were sunbursts (yum!). And of course solid colours like Candy Red, Pearl White and Black.
devrock Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Don't forget that both Glenn and KK were/are EMG endorsees, which started roughly around that time. Although, I don't recall KK having EMGs in his Vectors. I know he used them in his custom mini V that Hamer made for him, though.
jamminpete Posted April 11, 2014 Author Posted April 11, 2014 Thanks for the info!I just picked up a 1984. Natural top with mahogany back and sides. EMG pick up. I think it was ordered with the EMG as an upgrade.I'll post a pic when it arrives.
