Punkavenger Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I have a project I'm working on with chrome tuners and knobs, SS (I think) bridge. Is it possible to have all this stuff plated black to match? A black "chrome" would be excellent. Is black powder coating an option? There are some moving parts and close tolerances involved ... would these be affected? Thanks!
cmatthes Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 It might be tough to find a coating/plating place willing to do a small bit of piecework like that, but would be worth asking about. Depending on the parts though, it might be more economical to try to locate black chrome versions and sell your chrome/nickel stuff to offset the cost (??).
Punkavenger Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 Thanks Chris ... there is a local plating shop that does piecemeal work, I just had the hardware off an antique cabinet re-plated for a client. It wasn't perfect though, fortunately the client didn't notice. Jeez, quality control these days ...
carfish7 Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Powder coating adds thickness so if there are tolerances the parts will need to be prevented from taking on the coating. A big headache in the motorcycle world where I also deal with this kind of thing.I agree that sourcing the parts in the right color is the best way to go. Fewer headaches and likely far cheaper in the long run.
