Shielding tape or paint in an Amp?

In my never-ending quest to fight buzz, hiss, and interference I thought of trying this. Anybody ever tried it?

Usually the metal chassis does it, but I have changed the first wire in from the jack, to a shielded piece in a number of amps.

old fenders used screen inside the amp and I never notice difference when taking it out...I like the shielded wire idea^^^^^ but in tube amps is most often bad components than outside interference...I have never had a SS be noisy ...but dont own or play many either...just my tm60 and microcube.

When I first brought my '66 Bassman into my basement music room, noticed it was noisier than hell. Was picking up AM radio stations, every TV remote in the house and even the boys' X-Box controllers all wreaked havoc through it. Noticed it got a little better when I put the aluminum tube shields on the pre/PI tubes. Carrying this logic one step further, I put two of these on V1/V3 and problem completely disappeared (go figure!!):

Ha ha - sorry for that, as I didn't see they were out of stock.

Looking at them, they'd be pretty easy to make your own actually. They're basically just some copper screening inside an aluminum shielding tube covered in rubber/plastic insulation material (large tube shrink wrapping?). Work a charm though...

Similar things to those tube cages were stock on many amps at one time. They usually only made a difference on the first tube, depending on the amp of course.
