Tremelo/Vibrato Bridge Recomendations For Les Paul Kit Project

Question

First, I am not interested in a Bigsby for this one.

Like I said I have a LP kit that has not been drilled for any type of bridge so it's a clean slate. I have a couple old Floyds in the parts bin but the routing for a Kahler is a lot easier. The top on this one is flat enough to not need the stud mount version if there is much difference between the two Kahlers.

Also, what else is out there? That new locking Super Vee bridge looks nice.

Beuller?

I love the SuperVee on my Strat. Does the locking version work on a LP style top? I guess it could, as a Wilky VSV trem works on Hamer Mirages and Studios

there is a big difference between the flat mount and stud mount in the tone department.

Flat mount~ mounts directly to the body.

Stud mount~ held, floats in place via studs and string tension, floating on the abr / tom bridge posts.

If one is to go with Kahler, avoid the stud mount unless it is modified to be solid in place of...

Tone pros locking studs

and

mod the TOM bridge area to a lock down app as well.

This would help in the vibration transfer coupling affect.

or

you could always "deck" the top area to accept a flat mount....

A. route the top flat where the kahler would reside.

B. make a radius'd shim to fit top of carve, and flat top for kahler.

Kahler does not need to be level. It can be pitched back a little bit.

Oh, and heavy springs :)

Thanks for the info Jay. You've de-Kahlered a few guitars, any of those old bridges kicking around? ;)
