Seeking overview on EMG pickups

Would someone mind to give me an overview on active EMG pickups? I'm not interested in any way shredding but rather seek a quality warm lead tone for the neck and a complementing bridge pickup.

Are EMGs used in the typical mid position with parallel wiring the two?

What's up with the double mode pickups?

Do they qualify for gibsonesc short scale or fenderesc long scale guitars?

What do you know?

I was really amazed by these to be fair, the ones in the Blueburst Centaura that Nathan kindly sold me.

They were very different to my expectation. The noiseless nature of them is really nice. I expected them to be very sterile but no - plenty of character, especially the single coils - really useable.

I was surprised to find that the output or perceived output was much lower than I thought they would be.

Comparing this centaura to the posh maple one with SD PA pickups from Austin, the passive pickups felt like they kicked out lots more grunt.

I was expecting a bit of a one trick pony for ultra gain, but it's just so so useable - for example the 89 in the bridge can be split to give super options.

I could do with some help explaining the mini switch and the tone position control, reading about deluxes it's meant t be an STC control, to fatten everything up, rather than a roll off for the highs.

Could someone in the know fill in the gaps?

Could you mean "SPC?" I hadn't heard of STC, so I Googled it and STC seems to refer to a cable.

If it's the SPC, that's EMG's Strat Presence Control; I had one in my College-years Charvel (in place of a tone control). Marvelous piece of machinery that bumped the mid range and lowered some higher frequencies in a fairly successful attempt to make their single coil pickups sound more like humbuckers.

The only issue I had with it (in my SA/SA/85 guitar) was it had too much gain to use fully open with the 85 humbucker - I got a nasty sounding distortion with the 85 selected and the SPC all the way up. I asked EMG about this and they said it was normal - what was I doing trying to make a humbucker sound like a humbucker? I could use it a bit with the 85, though, just to fatten things up (again, a bit, but the 85 was plenty fat on its own).

Have you flipped on your amp yet and thought the guitar was unplugged and/or the guitar's volume knob was turned all the way down? I loved that - freakishly quiet!

Yep definate typo I didnt have em page open at the sametom as me reference material :)

I must admit I did think something was broken due to the quietness of the set up, it's really cool!
