stereo jack for mono passive guitar?

I'm reviving my Ibanez RG550. I've taken out the old EMGs and it has the stereo jack to activate the battery on the extra connection. Can I leave this in and simply disconnect the wire that went to the battery? Is there any problem doing so? Should I connect that extra lug to ground?

No need to do anything but disconnect the power wire from the lug. When you insert a mono plug into the jack it will short that lug to ground anyway.
