Akai HeadRush E2 - Distortion?

Question

Posted

Any one have an Akai Headrush E2? I just got one yesterday and have found that
it distorts when I play hard. It seems to only distort the repeats and looped signal.
It gets worse if I put an overdrive in front of it, so there is no way I could use
it at the end of my pedal board.

I really like the pedal otherwise, so hopefully I just got a bad one.

Most delay/echo units, especially analog and or tape-based units, introduce some level of distortion on the wet signal under gain/volume. You can choose to accept it for what it is and work with it to make it your own thing (like U2's Edge), dial back the gain to an acceptable level, use a cleaner digital unit or put the unit you have in an effects loop to largely mitigate the distortional aspect of the wet signal.

I would have to leave my guitar volume at 5 all the time. There's no way this would work in a loop. It's not light analog or tape distortion, more like the guitars in Revolution.

I stand corrected, so disregard post #2 in it's entirety. I got nuthin'...

I exchanged it for another and this one is much better. There is a bit of degradation on the delay repeats that is probably not unlike an analog delay. I really like the control set for the delays and two footswitch functionality for the looper. I just couldn't get used to the single foot switch operation on the Ditto, but I admit I didn't try real hard.

I also got a price adjustment since Akai is now blowing them out on ebay at $69!
