Value Check: Original Mutron III

In the process of digging through Buzzard Gulch, I came across my old pawnshop-prize Mutron III. It's beat-up, has one replaced goofball knob, but has the original power supply and, last I checked, it worked.

I've heard that these things are pretty desirable, but I've no clue on these, and especially considering that this is pretty dang far from pristine, I REALLY have no clue.

I'm not really considerig selling it just yet, but just had a case of idle curiosity.

Anybody have an idea?

Hmmm, I wonder if any of this old sheet-metal E-H crap works? Or this Univox Superfuzz, or this goofy-ass Octavia thing??

Hey Tom I had one in good condition that I sold a while back for $350. I didn't have the power supply. Mr. Garcia from the Greatful Dead use to use one. The Deadheads love them. I never used mine much. I traided for a Phase 90 back in the late 70's and had it sitting in the closet for many years like you.

Hi Tom,

I sold my spare Mutron III for AU$550 a while back....I'd been offered AU$1000 for it

(Chaka Khan's bassist) previous to them being re-issued, which I stupidly declined.

They were sought after by funk bassists, but Zappa used them a lot on guitar.

Most people turn the Peak control up too high and go quacky duck...but with subtle settings it's a good effect

The reissues supposedly don't sound quite as good, but they've brought the price down..

along with the EH 'Q-tron' etc.

Mutron Bi-Phase's bring pretty good money..I sold a minty with the pedal for AU$1000...

and I've seen them go higher on eBay

BTW If you come across an old Oberheim VCF-200 pedal (white) let me know
