Jimbilly Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I was just at one of the good music stores in my area (not GC of course), they have a jcm800 1x12 combo for $399. It's very well used, rust on the outer metal peices, and has a replacement speaker, it also appears to be a channel switching model. That seems like a good price, is there something wrong with those?
Turdus Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Did you make sure it actually is a tube amp? Marshall made a 1-12" solid state that looks like the JCM800 channel switcher. IIRC, the model is 5210, or something like that.

I personally think the cabinets forthe JCM800 and silverjubilee 1x12combos are too small. They sounda bit tiny compared to other 1x12 combos and don't spreadthe sound that well. The JCM8002x12 combos such as the50w 4104 model are just killer.
Jimbilly Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 It was a small cabinet, but I'm certain it had tubes, and the jcm800 logo on front lower left. I should have looked at the specific model#.
Turdus Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Since it had tubes, and channel switching, it is probably a 4210. I'm not up on the prices on those, because I don't care for the switching 800's. Apparently they were popular, so it might be worth checking in to. If it was the 800, 1x12, no chan switching, I'd be all over it for $399.
killertone Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 I'm a big fan of the ch switching 800's (I own three presently). The combos are cool and sound exactly like a head when plugged into an extension cab. Try finding a head for $399...it ain't gonna happen.
JES1680 Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 I had a 4210 a few years ago. Nice amp, sounds a bit boxy as others have stated. If its all in working order then $399.00 would be a decent price. They are really good sounding amps with the right cabs. And yep, ya ain't gonna find an 800 head anywhere near that price.
Jimbilly Posted January 8, 2006 Author Posted January 8, 2006 Well, I've got too many amps in my basement, so I'm gonna pass. If any of you want it, it's at www.music6000.com It won't show up on their used listings as it's rarely updated, I believe they ship, and they're closed on Sunday, so give them a call on Monday AM (pacific time). That's a really good store, so there shouldn't be any problems dealing with them.
ac15 Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Just curious...I had a JCM 800 (channel switching) head and a Marshall 4 X 10 cabinet that I sold to my girlfriend's 14 year old nephew, along with an Epiphone Gold Top Les Paul for $1200 for the whole package. I did it to help finance the purchase of a Monaco III. I figured that seemed kind of cheap, but I also knew his mom would cut me a check right then and there and I wouldn't have to find a seller. Think I gave him a good price? Did I give it up too cheaply? I hadn't been playing the Marshall recently and regretted selling it as soon as I fired it up to show the kid how it sounded. But I got over it.
killertone Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Maybe a tad cheap but not by much. The 410's don't bring a whole bunch and the Epi LP is worth around $250-$300 max.
