I'm trying to fill in a ding with fingernail polish on one of my guitars. It's not an exact match, but I wasn't going for perfection as much as getting the surface uniform again. I figured a smooth finish with about a half dime of discoloration would look better than the nasty ding that is there currently.
I made a pretty big error right off the bat by putting down too much polish in the first layer. I realized that, and in subsequent applications, went to thinner coats with 30 minutes to an hour in between applications. 18 hours later, it still is soft enough for fingernails to leave and impression that I can rub back out with a soft cloth. I haven't dared try to level it back to the body and buff it out yet.
I know I am fixing a ding in a poly finish with nitro, but didn't feel like for a ding it would matter much. However, has anyone done this before, and how long am I looking at before this might be hardened? Any ballpark estimates?
