Dave Scepter Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 New old acoustic guitar day! It might not seem like anything to you guys but I thought I would share one of those unexpected "oh cool moments" with you all~ I have a couple of project cars that I was going to wrench on for the winter, & as I was clearing off some boxes that were stored on top, I came across one of my old acoustic guitars... a 70's Alvarez model 5014...nothing fancy, "Spruce top, back, sides and neck are mahogany w/rosewood fretboard" but a great sounding guitar & "honest-to-god has the lowest action any acoustic I've ever played" that I had completely forgot about & now looking forward to putting on some new strings on and making some noise
tomteriffic Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Not too long ago I uncovered my equivalent of that. It's an early 70's pre bolt-on neck Japanese Epi. Maple sides and back, big-ass block inlays. Incredibly low action and a fresh set of strings got it sounding surprisingly good. The frets are pretty much imaginary, tho....
Disturber Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Congrats! Love my late 60's, early 70's Alvares Dove 5025. I re-set the bridge this past summer, and made a mahogny wooden shim underneath, for better coupling. Brought out a lot of firm tight bottom in tone from the guitar. It also has low action and a nice playing neck. Sitka Spruce top, laminated rosewood back and sides. This thing sounds very very goo, and it plays great. Could need a dressing of the frets, but I have not bothered.
