hamerican gigolo Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Has anyone ever done this? I purchased an Allparts tele neck & the drilled holes do not line up with the body. The body is a pre-drilled Allparts body. I love the neck but it has to be doweled & redrilled. I don't have the skill set or the tools for such an endeavor. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I usually purchase/match the dowel to fit the bit that I'm planning to use, then make sure you measure twice and mark the drill bit with tape so you do not accidentally drill through the fretboard... then glue dowel in place... I use a flush Japanese saw to saw the dowels flush... put the neck on the guitar use a high and low E string as a straight edge to position the neck, remark, drill the new holes... if you have never done this before I would suggest that you practice with a crappy neck or leave it to professionals...
Jeff R Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Here are some photos that may provide some insight. This is from a stabilization repair I did on a crap three-bolt/microtilt CBS-era strat neck joint. The two wood screw holes had worked themselves hokey and loose over four decades. You will need hardwood dowel material (I think I used 1/4") and a nice wood glue (home improvement store) and I use lip balm to lube the screw on the first screw-in. If you don't have access to a drill press, a hand drill will work. Use multiple bits working up in size to your dowel's diameter. Get a friend to stand at 9 o'clock in relation to you while "both" of you drill. You watch to keep your entry straight up and down and tell your friend to do the same. He or she can use their hands to hold the drill up straight while you hold/trigger keeping your perspective straight. Use tape to mark how deep you want to go, otherwise you run risk of the bit going either not deep enough or through the fingerboard, neither of which is good!
