Scarab85 Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Strange question, does anyone have one gold Tony Iommi signature pickup for sale? I have an SG custom with 2 gold TI's but could never find the 3rd one to complete the conversion from the lousy '57 classic PU's. They seem to be quite difficult to find in that color as it was discontinued after a while and only chrome and black were available. Let me know if anyone has one they would part with. It of course would have to be Gold. I have some gold Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbuckers I'm willing to part with which could be part of a trade too if that is interesting to anyone. 😀
ARM OF HAMER Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 There WAS just one available on Reverb but it sold and went for almost a C note out of the Netherlands...............tough find! Good Luck! Check on Ebay and Reverb, they do turn up there.https://reverb.com/item/3290902-gibson-tony-iommi-pick-up-gold
Scarab85 Posted September 2, 2018 Author Posted September 2, 2018 Thanks Arm of Hamer. Yeah, I search Ebay and Reverb pretty religiously. Just thought I would check with my friends on HFC too. That posting was in 2016 so haven't seen one in some time. Anyway, I will keep searching and maybe someday the SG will be "complete".
scottcald Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Is it possible to replace a chrome cover with a gold cover on one? Might be an easier needle to find.

I think the Iommi PUPs are made like the old Gibson "Tar Backs" or "Super Humbuckers".............they use a epoxy.........do they not?....................I'm thinking if that is the case it might be pretty difficult to remove the cover w/o damaging the pickup itself.
scottcald Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 Ah, OK. I didn't even know before this thread that there was a Tony Iommi specific Gibson pickup
Scarab85 Posted September 8, 2018 Author Posted September 8, 2018 Yeah, the Iommi pickups are all one unit kind of like an EMG but metal. There are no pole holes with screws so it is a smooth piece. I don't know how you would get a cover since it is not a traditional pickup with a cover. If I could, that would be a good idea though.
scottcald Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 Well, that's a bummer. But, thanks for the education on the Iommi pickup.
