JochenP Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 I´ll buy a Mirage (tomorrow :-) ) The PU´s unfortunately have been changed by the last owner. So here´s my question: Are there any difference between the old (from the 90´s) Vintage and Hot Rails and the new one (except there is print "Seymour Duncan" on the top)? Thanks for help!
Dutchman Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 The old ones have 2 wires + ground on the SVR-1 and the new ones have 4 wires + ground. There’s no script on the old ones. Mine don’t. New ones have Seymour Duncan script on them. Old ones measure 2.5 ohms. New ones are spec’d at 2.3 ohms.
bubs_42 Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 The old ones don't have covers. They are wrapped bobbins like a humbucker. Different era, means different manufacturing processes. I'm not saying good or bad, just different. If you want the OEM Style, they will not be hard to find on Ebay or Reverb. Be patient.

I used to have a large stash of SD's and the differences in older version to the 2000's are noticeable. Refining processes for mass production at the size that SD has gotten, you have give and take. QC is substantially better but at what cost? Back to my OP, if he wants the OEM Style and wants it to look correct he needs to buy used ones. Side NOTE: The SD 59's that were hand wound by Seymour that I owned were second to none, to anything "boutique" i've owned.
