Some buyers don't/won't use PayPal. It takes 30 days to cash a check from a US buyer. Canadian banks hold the check for 30 days, there is no way around it. There are fees associated with cashing money orders at Money Mart, including flat fees and/or exchange rate rape. Most buyers don't want to pay the fees. Most sellers don't want to wait 30 days.

Thanks

Prior to Paypal existing people used US Post Office money orders, specifically the international variety. Other options would be Western Union or BidPay for immediate payment sans Paypal.

Ya, but unfortunately Western Union's fees are silly, they typically charge $25 - $50 per transaction, and it's frowned upon since WU is the choice of scammers. What's worse is Western Union's BidPay is no longer available.

Also, when you cash a US IMO in Canada, you subject yourself to Money Mart's exchange rates, so you take a hit of 3-5% plus their cashing fees. They don't pay out in USD, they only cash in Canadian, so exchange rate rape is another way they make money. So it's about $20 - 25 to cash it. Most buyers and sellers don't want to pay the fees. On a $1000 item I would take the $25 hit, but for a $250 item it seems silly.

If you're selling a USA guitar, there shouldn't be customs fees. Where people get jacked is with these f'in "services" or "Brokers" that hold items, even when they aren't supposed to and charge stupid (illegal as far as I can tell) fees on USA products coming back into the US. Better if you can drive it across the border I think!

I got charged a $40 "import duty" on my '79 Sunburst when I mailed it home from Germany. (I didn't want it on a ship with my furniture) That's the post office for you.

Oh well.......

Buyer beware? Character?

The thing is, you guys don't know me, and my post count is low, so you automatically assume the worst. Have you seen my ebay feedback? Have you talked to Hamer Board members I've done business with? Probably not.

Thanks

I think your character spoke for itself with the initial post of the guitar. I thought you laid it out so anybody buying would not be surprised, and I thought your price was decent for what it is. Kudos on that.

And hey..... I've had problems with a Money Order from Canada, so I'll figure it works both ways. Only accept whatever form of payment you are comfortable with.

Good luck.
