Why did Hamer switch to Seymour Duncan pickups?

Earlier today for the first time in a while I pulled out my 85 Scarab with original 10.3k Slammer pickups, and I was absolutely Blown Away by the sound, the response, the feel of that guitar and those pickups.. just blown away...

I have several of the post acquisition bolt on Floyd rose Duncan models, and while they are pretty they do NOT sound or feel like this..

So I am wondering and hope the experts can chime in with some light on this subject; why did Hamer abandon a successful relationship with demarzio, fantastic original pickups in the slammers, the sound of rock and roll?

Unless I'm mistaken this seems to have coincided with the acquisition, the bolt on necks, etc

When KAMAN bought Hamer in the late 80s, they likely had a better corporate deal negotiated with SD.
