  1. I just looked at Serial's database and counted 9 Sunbursts in 1978 (Mine is 8-0131), were there REALLY that few, or is that just what's been registered here? I knew it was rare, but seriously, 9 made that year?
  2. I was playing my '78 Sunburst the other day and was wondering just how many of them have made it all these years intact? I'm sure many of them were trashed over the years for whatever reason. Does anybody know the production numbers for Sunbursts in 1978? How many can still be accounted for do you think? I've seen quite a few early Sunbursts here over the years but can only really remember a handful of '78's and only one or 2 that still had the wooden shim under the pre-Sustain Block bridge. Who's got 'em? -=RkR=-
  3. Ibanez doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Hamer or Jackson. I owned one of those floral print JEMs. It cost me $1800 at the time and it was a *complete* POS. The thing literally rusted apart...I shit you not. The trem and neck plate damn near disintegrated. Ibanez refused to stand by their product, claiming that I had "corrosive sweat". Bullshit. I had a stable of guitars at that time and *none* of them fell apart. Just because they spent more money on endorsements doesn't mean they built a good guitar. Did you ever wonder *why* they had to have so many paid endorsers? They built a POS and then then outspent everyone in advertising...they are the guitar world equivalent of Bill Gates and Microsoft. My '87 Jem7RB has held up nicely and is THE #1 shredder in the collection for tone and playability, so I guess it's all a matter of opinion, eh? +1 for Ibanez
  4. Hi everyone! I haven't been on the board in a while but I LOVE it when I come back and find a new Sunburst appreciation thread. Here's my $0.02 : 1978 8-0131 All original, early shimmed bridge, long/thin headstock w/ Grover Bullseyes, fairly chunky neck profile. It's been a favorite of mine for a long time.
  5. You know you're a Hamer geek when "Watsonesque money" is immediately understood. I need help.
  6. "That paint job looks like ass."
  7. Bill, I lost my mom 4 years ago, so I know just how deeply that loss is felt. You have my deepest sympathy.
  8. 1978 SN 8 0131
  9. My #1 is my '87 Ibanez Jem. It's just so rediculously versatile sound-wise. It covers just about anything I need a guitar for, so it's been my main "go-to" guitar for a while. My #2 is My Jackson USA KE-2 Kelly #3 is my BC Rich Gunslinger My Hamer is actually pretty far down the list due to the fact that it's an EARLY sunburst with all the associated tuning problems that model is known for (that they later fixed). But, I do use it a lot for recording since I have the luxury of being able to re-tune between takes, but it will NOT fly as a "live" guitar. -=RkR=- Edited to add the Jem pic
  10. 21 years! My #1 is still my 1984 BC Rich Gunslinger that I custom ordered back in the day. 21 years later, it's still my main "go to" guitar.
