  1. Less crackles, hisses, and pops. Good for Rice Crispys -- bad for amps. Also almost anyone can put a tube in, but I've been chasing down a cracked solder joint for a couple months (it crackles when the joint heats up). Good luck with getting your amp.
  2. Well thanks guys, I appreciate that! May your plates be overflowing with: gold (and food, love of a good woman, kids, and all the good stuff). Matt Mattson
  3. John Mayall is on tonight as well (with Clapton). Show follows Dire Straits on Ovation Channel.
  4. Re: Mark Knopfler -- the Dire Straits show I'm talking about is on tonight (Sat. Jan 28) on Ovation Channel, 9-10 pm EST re-run 1-2 am (10 pm in the Pacific). Has some great footage of his hand-work.
  5. There's to many to count -- but I will mention one who rarely gets mentioned: Relatively few people play guitar Fewer still play well Fewer still play well and play fast Fewer still play well and play fast and solo Fewer still play well and play fast and solo and sing Fewer still play well and play fast and solo and sing well Fewer still play well and play fast and solo and sing well and write Fewer still play well and play fast and solo and sing well and write well Fewer still play well and play fast and solo and sing well and write well and produce And the fewest of all play well play fast and solo and sing well and write well and produce and make money at it! Mark Knopfler Tape "Dire Straits" off Ovation Channel (it's on this month) for a look into his songwriting & playing style. The songwriting was the most interesting part of it to me.
  6. Excellent. And may you have the next #1 hit!
  7. Ditto for me. I picked up the guitar at the tender age of 48, after a min-stroke left my left lower fingers at 1/2 strength (so I play most things with 2 fingers). I've been writing all my life and after the stroke figured if I'm going to get it produced, then the man in the mirror is responsible for getting off his butt and doing it the way he wants it done. You got no problems (compared to many (neither do I). Use the time to create new music or learn new chords, riffs, sequences, etc. Good luck.
  8. Yeah -- but that version was acoustic (I think). It's been banned so deep, even I can't check it to find out . . .
  9. You would cause trouble . . . I did that (on "God") by going through the Studio V3 on Voicing to A. Guitar, input at 1/4, output at 1/2, none of the out buttons pressed -- into the Edirol Audio Capture at 1/2 gain, with the guitar/StudioV3 plugged into stereo and voice mike into mono, then into the Apple, set to "Voice." Some (most) of those other clips are acoustic/electric (Ovation Balladeer) 6 & 12 strings.
  10. Been working this out for the past few weeks: http://www.treasuresites.com/God.mp3 http://www.treasuresites.com/God.mp4 Free Quicktime for Windows: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html (mp4: HD Video + CD audio or variations of audio quality you set) File sizes are 1/3 that of mp3 audio files. My other mp4's at: http://www.treasuresites.com/z.htm (listed) Studio Custom used for it.
  11. Who you callin' "Brother?" Well Put Up Yah Dukes! Put Up Ya Dukes! Seriously: (to all of you) I would never want a re-hash of the past . . . (and certainly never take what I say personally).
  12. "I don't want to rehash any number of flame wars that always are inherent in "guitar" boards" Flame wars? I see that you have relatively few posts -- let me assure you sir, that flame wars never erupt on this site. Come get me . . . Play on.
  13. "can't play "Mustang Sally" twice the same way." -- can't blame him for that as I played Mustang Sally once (about 1972) and had to go to the doc for shots. I agree with those who like Lynch's style of play.
  14. "Dude, put your pants back on before you scare away Ginger and Mary Ann." -- I don't believe I've ever said that was a picture of me . . . I'm a lot more handsome than that on the internet . . . The Hama Slama Jama Tele was real. 34 made, all with blue satin finish -- don't believe? -- do a search on EBay (don't bid more than $1200 for it -- there's better out there IMO).
  15. "How do I plug into the amp without running the internal battery down?" (I think I got that right) By the way, how do you plug into the amp without running the battery down? "Launched a thousand lunches" -- why stop there? Small dogs fear me, women want me.
  16. Maybe all the bashing is taking effect? http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=gtrc I'm sure the stockholders are pleased . . . If it weren't for the volume mills selling volume, the high-end stuff would be totally unafordable for most people. Standard progression: Youth: Down with capitalism and the corporate masters! Evil Evil Evil Middle age: What are you trying to tell me Hon? What??? You mean she's having SEX with that freak!!! Old age: Luckilly, I put a bunch of money in the market when it dipped in 2012, saved my bacon now that Social Security went bust . . . GO WALMART!!! Let's see -- Guitar Center at 50 and change, forcast to go to the high 60's in a year, 18+ % growth rate, no real competitor that comes close: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/co?s=GTRC http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=gtrc&d=t . . . (evil evil thoughts) Don't be picking on Sam Ash.
  17. I have lost both parents and fully understand. My thoughts are with you.
  18. "These people didn't do it all on their own." Excellent point -- volumes of absolute garbage done on dope have been fixed in post by good producers just doing their jobs without fanfare.
  19. Didn't seem to make my cousin any more beautiful, but it did rob him of his family, friends outside of drugs, and everything else he had known until he jumped off the I-10 overpass going into Slidel Louisiana and only succeeded in breaking every bone he had (that I-10 bridge is a low one). He recovered and is now 44 and in jail (with other beautiful people) for robbing a store to feed his continuing addiction. "The connection between rock musicians and excessive drug use is by now commonplace, but it is important to remember that drugs have played a significant role in the cultures and subcultures surrounding other musical forms as well—notably the use and valuation of heroin and other drugs by be-bop jazz musicians. Among musicians themselves and among critics and commentators, drug use is often linked with creativity, and performers' work following their "cleaning up" is often viewed as disappointing. But it is not simply the idea that drug use somehow promotes "better" music that provokes fascination in Miles Davis or Lou Reed; it is more importantly the way in which, even as such figures transgress musical limits, they transgress socially prescribed norms of the body, affect, and identity. Social and bodily transgression is valorized through its articulation to aesthetic innovation, and this articulation brings out utopian impulses in audiences for whom such transgressions seem to suggest new possibilities for the experience of everyday life. What does the body on heroin do? Perhaps we first need to think about what the body on heroin does not do. Heroin provokes a loss of appetite for and disinterest in food; indeed, the hunger for the drug displaces the hunger for food to the extent that food takes on an abject status. It is no longer what the body needs, but rather precisely what the body does not need and expels in the vomiting which often accompanies taking the drug. Authors such as William Burroughs, Jim Carroll (pictured) and Irvine Welsh have all documented the disdain for food and its consumption which becomes something of a mark of status in junkie subcultures: renouncing food indicates real commitment. 3 The body of the junkie thus acquires the painfully thin, withering appearance embodied by icons such as Sid Vicious and Keith Richards. Another common understanding of what the body on heroin does not do is have sex. This perception genders the body of the heroin user as male, however. Although heroin has been shown to reduce sex drive in both men and women, the impotence produced in men by heroin use (humorously depicted in Drugstore Cowboy) marks a dramatic transformation of bodily functions and capacities which plays a significant role in many accounts of heroin cultures. It is notable that most junkie icons in popular culture have been male, suggesting that the transgressions upon normative conceptions of masculinity effected by heroin use register more powerfully upon the public imaginary." -- Just pulled the above off a website
  20. Another day, another girlfriend . . . I can't believe you're attacking me -- I'm such a great guy! As for reading -- eventually you have to read or simply go away wondering why your initial posts are unanswered. I now know why (as do the rest): first you have to be screened -- is he in this camp or that camp or friends of . . . or using a real name or an alias . . . or maybe he's a secret agent going to flame me or maybe . . . Of course, now the more paranoid will go looking at my initial posts to read whatever they want to read into them or out of them or whatever . . . Can't be to careful! Have a nice day. Matt Mattson http://www.treasuresites.com/z.htm
  21. "Doing what you suggest would be ignoring the data you got from this poll." No it isn't. The information isn't removed or banned, it's simply put in another place so a guitar board can talk about guitars and not a couple of dealers. Look at what you've got -- a guy who obviously feels he or a friend is wronged and is hellbent for revenge and feels somehow it is his duty to protect the world . . . You have a legitimate dealer (at least Hamer has him on their website and guitars ordered by him for customers so he must be legit in their eyes) getting pounded to a pulp and another who has evidently already been pounded (Al) previously. You have a bunch of us looking on in astonishment at the childishness of it all. On the Hamer website: click on "Dealer Locator" and plug in your state and click go . . . and everyone will find there are quite litterally dozens to choose from. Perhaps you want to do as I did: 1. pick a model 2. plug it into Google 3. find the absolute rock bottom price 4. cross check to make sure it is an authorized dealer on the Hamer list 5. order your guitar with your specs (any dealer can do it) and specify it be delivered direct from Hamer (that way if there's any problems you're dealing direct with the factory and not some dealer -- you just want the best price from the dealer -- that's it on that). 6. plunk the money down, contact Hamer to make sure it is ordered, and wait. It's all pretty simple. I got a beautiful custom guitar for $1930 that way. Good deal, bad deal, what deal it doesn't matter, I'm playing it and my other guitars. And some of you guys are stuck (for years?) arguing over TWO dealers out of dozens in every state and mail order houses that will order a guitar right out of the factory? You're kidding -- right? I take comfort in knowing some of you go to bed with your grudges and I have Serena Lorien . . . Good night. Matt Mattson http://www.treasuresites.com/z.htm
  22. Trolls, baiting, and flame posts are universal I'm afraid -- even in aviation. There are two bush aircraft that are so similar in looks it is uncanny, (the Husky (much faster) and SuperCub (hauls more) with both having avid followings and the moderator of the SuperCub forum finally had to invent a section (rants & raves) to house all the flame wars that spring up between devotees of the two aircraft. Here is his post: SuperCub.Org Trolling & Censorship Policy SuperCub.org was created for the enjoyment of Super Cub and other bush flying enthusiasts around the world to get together and discuss the things that mutually affect them. In some cases, this is politics. In some cases, it may be religion, in some cases it involves killing small animals, and in some cases it involves emotional and feverish exchanges that some people find pushes their blood pressure to the moon. In order to aid folks in not seeing these kinds of posts if they did not want to, we created the "Rant and Rave" area. It is free to all who dare enter, simply click the usergroups link http://www.supercub.org/phpBB2/groupcp.php at the top of the forums and request to join the group. It is only a formality that we have to approve your joining; anyone wanting to join will be added. You can also be removed if you get tired of the stuff. When a post starts out or goes in a direction that I or others believe is of the kind to make some people uncomfortable, I will move it to the rant and rave area, and leave a shadow topic so those who want can chase it down there. The best thing is if you can post these topics in the rant and rave area to start with. I may choose just to move the offensive part of the post. It is important to point out that I move posts around all the time, and I delete old posts all the time - when they seem to me to be of little value, like the other day I deleted "Anyone know where I can get a Cessna 180 left gear". No one had responded in 9 months. So I figured we did not know and I deleted it. It is also important to point out that the Rant and Rave posts are automatically deleted after 30 days of inactivity. So they disappear. This is how the section works. It is a feature! It has always been this way there. If you REALLY want to keep one of these, print it off and put it in your scrapbook. Trolling is posting remarks intended to anger or insult another poster with the goal of starting a flame war and disrupting the site. Troll posts will be edited or deleted at the moderator?s discretion. Do not take the bait when trolling is aimed at you. Please contact me by email or PM. Tolerance for trolling in the rant and rave area will be greater, but not universal. Anyone consistently making posts that the administrator deems constitutes moving it to rant and rave, or elicits consistent complaints from other users, will be warned. If the behavior continues the user may be banned from the site for a period of time, or permanently. I encourage you to read this basic guideline on identifying trolls, and the best thing you can do to counter them. http://members.aol.com/intwg/trolls.htm While we are vehemently opposed to censoring the useful exchange of ideas, even when tempers flare, I reserve the right to move or delete posts that I feel do not fit the spirit of this site. If you have questions about this policy, please PM or email me and we can discuss it. ________________________________________________________________________________ Of course, I'd never want to cause any trouble . . .
