  1. Steely Dan opened their tour at the beautiful new Durham Performing Arts Center last night and Jon Herrington was rocking the Taledega Pro I'm sure you've all seen in Jol's blog. He used it for about 75% of the night and it, of course, sounded great! Covered the fatter 335-ish tones as well as the more biting Tele tones. The whole band sounded great, and seeing them in a small theatre was awesome. I was happy to hear Aja, as I adopted a puppy in Feburary and named her Aja! (any excuse for a gratuitous puppy picture! )
  2. Here's mine! TVJones Classics in this guitar sound badass!!!
  3. Yeah, until Supernova came along I thought he was the greatest drummer in the history of rock! I actually saw an episode of the college show, he joined the marching band and couldn't play the drums to save his life! The only reason they actually let him play in a half-time show was because it was his show, the band director totally didn't think he was good enough. A contract with Wal-Mart??? Well, I guess that's hitting your demographic, Starbucks wouldn't be a good match!
  4. THANK YOU, BadgerDave. This is one of my biggest pet peeves with my students (along with apostrophe abuse). I've taken to calling Central Pennsyltucky the land of the Shakespearean question-"to be or not to be". Of course it's TO BE, you FuKK! This needs done, this needs fixed, this needs replaced-WTF?! No-you need to speak the freaking language! Ha! My sister lives in Ohio and hears that all the time. She's made sure her daughters use all the words they need when they speak. It's a pet peve of mine too. When I hear someone say something like, "The car needs washed" it freaks me out! I saw this auction a couple of days ago, now I have that monstrosity in my head again...
  5. If you like Good Vibrations, definitely listen to Pet Sounds - count me amongst those who think its one of the best records ever. 40 years later it holds up better than Sgt. Peppers.
  6. We listened to James Brown's Funky Christmas this morning and then I heard the news.
  7. That was sweet! I think I'll keep that one on the Tivo for a while. True 'dat! That's why I don't really get this "modern rock." It's not about actually being able to play just whining vocals and jumping up and down. If that songs were good it would be one thing but songwriting is nonexistant too!
  8. "its time to redefine where and what it is that your doing. but there is definately a difference between keeping the home fires burning for the music you grew up with/love, and becoming a sad parody of your past playing it out." I guess I better start learning some "modern rock" then. Young folks love to hear "old guys" playing their music! While I'm at it I'll learn that dope Bow Wow rap I just heard to it's phat - the kids'll love it! I hear what you're saying peenedmark but you gotta just play whatever it is you like and can do with sincerety, but great songs are timeless.
  9. I had an 87 SG Custom until I traded it for a Monaco! Best move I ever made, gearwise!
  10. Wow, all this talk make me appreciate the blues jam I go to! The host is cool & sticks to the list letting everyone play. Exceptions are sometimes made if a friend of his is in town but that's OK because they are always killer players! One time there was a total trainwreck on stage, none of the guys were all that great and worse, sounded like they had never really played with others before. They still got thier 15 minutes or so and the host commented to me "They're having fun." Whenever I hear people like that I always hope that they learn from it and come back later as better players. That's why I go, to have fun and learn a little bit more every time. Something always make me want to go home and practice, either I play something sucky or I hear someone play really well. Most weeks it's both!
