  2. ....and now the final chapter. I received this from Gibson today. Hello Brent, The instrument appears to be consistent with a real Gibson, but not a regular production model. It may have been a dealer exclusive model or custom build (like an original owner’s 25th anniversary). Thanks. Best Regards, Bob Burns Gibson Customer Service 1-800-4GIBSON service@gibson.com ....So....I guess that's about it.
  3. Well...it looks like the saga of this 1978 Nashville made, 25th Anniversary Les Paul is over for now. I am still trying to get a call into Pete's friend that works at the Gibson Custom Shop, but it seems like getting a hold of those folks is quite difficult. I was able to determine some things for sure about this guitar though..... * Its not a Chinese fake * It is a 1978 Gibson Les Paul * It was made in Nashville * The 25th Ann inlay is factory, so is the fretboard Granted, without a serial #, there is a lot left to be told...but I'm glad to play it just like it is. I touched up the back of the headstock... ...and here she sits with my Alex Skolnick H 150 and the 66 Bandmaster Thanks to all who contributed information and tried to assist me in hunting down info on this mystery Les Paul!
  4. The latest.... Well, stripping the finish off the back of the headstock revealed....NOTHING!!! The numbers we thought we saw last night were evidently a mirage. Now I know for sure that this Les Paul was not made in Kalamazoo....DAMMITTTTT!!! The one sure way to know it to take off the nut and look at the fretboard binding...if it has a "T" shape, its Nashville....no grove, Kalamazoo. Pete told me to call an old friend of his that works in the custom shop in Nashville...he said he may be able to shed some light on this mystery 25th Ann Les Paul. Stay tuned...
  5. I have some very exciting news regarding this mystery Les Paul. I took it to Pete Moreno's shop today. Pete is a Luthier/former Gibson & Heritage employee....he has been the go-to guy in S.W. Michigan for the past 30 years. Pete looked the guitar over and seemed to think that everything was legit....definitely not a Chinese fake, like some people told me it was. He started examining the back of the headstock and got out his super powered magnifying glass. He was able to make out at least 2 of the 8 #s in the serial #!!!!! Pete is going to strip the back of the headstock tomorrow and he seems to think that he may be able to recover the rest of the serial #!!!! Then the mystery will be over!!! Needless to say, I'm pretty excited!
  6. I'm trying to find out the origins of my latest purchase...1978 Les Paul Standard 25th Ann. It was supposedly stolen from a guitar shop in Baltimore, recovered, and then purchased....then sold to the guy that I bought it from. After it was stolen from the shop the serial # was removed. I'm trying to find out the origin of this LP to find out the serial #. If anybody from the Baltimore area might possibly know the shop where this LP might have originated from, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT! Thanks in advance!
  7. Wow...... this is really exciting for all of you. I sent in a quote request, knowing that I have no chance at the 1st run, but still curious about his pricing....from all your 16 pages of comments, it sounds like Mike is THE MAN for a custom build!!! I'm eagerly awaiting a response!!
  8. good job man!
  9. Thanks for all the compliments!
  10. thanks dude!! Its Wenge wood
  11. Thank you! The PG is wood...it came with the husk. Are you referring to putting a Kahler on it? I don't think I could do that. Maybe a Vibromate and a bigsby?
  12. Thanks man! I found the husk on ebay. He had a Bacchus Explorer on ebay that I was thinking about buying and then I saw that he also had this husk for sale. I liked the look of this one better even though it required a lot more elbow grease. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

  14. I cant remember his name...he is in OH, I remember that much
  15. It has a well balanced tone...not too bright, not too dark....it rocks hard!!!
  16. This project got off to a bumpy start. When I first saw the box, I expected to find a broken neck, since it was in a gig bag. Luckily, there was only a couple dings in the body. I started with the nut...I cheated and bought a pre-grooved nut. Then started wiring. There was no hole from the tailpiece post to the control cavity for the ground wire, so I had to buy a long drill bit and drill that hole. Installed the hardware and started doing the setup. The guitar setup very well! whoever did the fretwork on the stainless steel frets did a great job! The neck is perfect, with help from the dual action truss rod. The build quality is excellent as well. The guitar has a very warm tone. I'm very happy with the final product.
  17. thanks man! Duncan JB/59
  18. its not a Heritage...its just a husk I bought off ebay. Some luthier in OH built it.
