Un-stringing (de-stringing?)a Kahler trem

Question

I have a guitar (not a Hamer lol)  with a Kahler trem installed. It looks like a flat-mount version (it's not the Floyd-style version). I need to remove the strings to clean up the frets and electronics. On a Floyd I usually use a wood block or wedge to immobilize the trem when I take off all the strings.  How do you immobilize the Kahler so you can take the strings off or do you even need to? I don't have any other guitars with Kahlers, and never had to work on one. Thanks for any help you can provide.

No need to immobilize or block it. The springs are screwed on so they won't fly off; and there are no knife edged fulcrum points for it fly off or dull or damage. Remove all the strings, no problem.

Thank you Jeff.  It'll be good to get this one cleaned up and back to playing condition. It's a mutt, but it's a fun mutt lol.

thanks!  mine was WAY overdue for a change, and I don't think I removed all of the strings last time, not knowing what would happen.

It seems the fine tuner heads limit the travel, which keeps the string ball end holders up to where they can be reloaded.

Lube those rollers! Most issues with Kahlers are sticky/stuck rollers. You should be able to spin them and they continue spinning for a bit. So very free spinning!

Also lube all other contact movement points. I used gun oil, 3m oil works to. Don't leave them dripping with oil just get it in the joints. I would hang my guitar of off the whammy bar like a yoyo on my old Kahler bridge Charvel. Always came back in perfect tune. I also used Stay In Tune (SIT) strings for Kahlers. They're built a little bit more robust!
