BruceM Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 I'm a little late with this one this week, but here it is. Up for sale this week is a 1996 PRS Standard 22 in excellent condition. I purchased this from my buddy Dave, who bought it new from Ward-Brodt in Madison, WI. It includes all the case candy: hang tag, warranty card, stickers, etc... This guitar was purchased just before I rediscovered Hamer USA, and as a result of my rediscovery, it just sits in its case. I did restring it for a brief appearance at last month's Mpls jam, so it has been out of its case recently. Details: PRS Standard 22 Goldtop, wide thin neck, dragon pickups. It's very clean, with a few very light rivet rash marks on the back, and one very light ding near the volume knob which I put there with a guitar chord. I really don't think I could adequately photograph any of these markings, as they're very light. The stop tailpiece is lightly tarnished. This guitar is on the light side as well, weighing in at about 7.5 lbs. Price: $1200 SOLD - pending payment. Thanks for looking! Here's a pic, and I can get more if required. Feel free to email me at bemcbride4321 at hotmail dot com for additional info...

atquinn Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 [Tangent]Ward-Brodt Music Mall in Madison, WI is where I played my first Hamer, a Duotone Custom that's probably still there for all I know. It was the best-sounding guitar I had ever played up to that point.[/Tangent]

atquinn Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 What were you doing in Madison? Are you a closet midwesterner? Nothing closet about it! Lived my first 21 years in Michigan (up until I graduated from college) and lived in Madison, WI the next 8 years (part of the time in grad school the rest, mercifully, not). Only moved out to CT because my wife got into grad school here. Looks like we might be staying awhile though. Go Pack!

Ward-Brodt was among the first 3-4 stores to carry the Hamer line and we did a pretty good business in Sunbursts. I remember the day Frank Untermeyer hand delivered my black Standard. God, I feel old. [/Veer/Tangent]

I remember seeing Hamers in there during my very drunken time @ Madtown circa 82-83, I also recall trading some strat pickups for a DOD flanger at the same place, Unchained!!!
atquinn Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 If by downtown, you mean right by the capital, then I don't think so. There was a music store on State Street (street that runs from the UW to the capital), but Ward Brodt is by a few miles a way right next to a highway (unless it moved). Now someone buy BruceM's guitar!!
BadgerDave Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Ward-Brodt was located on North Henry Street, a block off State and 4-5 blocks south of the Capitol until sometime in the mid 80's when they moived to Todd Drive, just off the west beltline (near the huge American TV complex).Other music stores on State street included Ray Ketner's Music, where you could drink beer and hang out with the local pros and another shop that had the Marshall franchise. There was also the Buy-and-Sell Shop on East Washington Ave. They had a selection of used gear that was always interesting. Lots of Traynor, Ampeg and Kustom amps, Hagstrom guitars and other cool stuff.
BruceM Posted April 27, 2006 Author Posted April 27, 2006 The guitar is sold, pending payment. Thanks for looking! I used to make it up to Madison from Rockford, IL in the early to mid eighties. I never made it to guitar stores, though. I came for the concerts and parties, and to smoke in the student union.
