Dave Scepter Posted March 5 Posted March 5 For those interested on working on their own guitars... I really enjoyed his cadence on his speech tutorial 4 Quote
Saul Goodman Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I watched several such videos a few years ago and decided to try my hand at it. My trial neck was well used when I got it with very deep dents in the cowboy chords. I didn't have the tools this guy uses but was able to fashion some by mixing and matching techniques used in the tutorials. I must say that the neck, which was pretty much unplayable when I got it, turned out to be one of the best playing in my partscaster herd by the time I finished it. I went on to do others over time but I absolutely hate doing it now. And I have at least two that need to be done. I hate it because my hands hurt so bad by the time I'm finished that I can't play guitar for a week afterwards. It takes a lot of pressure and squeezing the fingers to get it done and like a marathon runner, if you don't train for it you will end up getting hurt. Well, unless you are in your twenties. 3 Quote
velorush Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I've got (somewhere) a PDF that Ron Kirn put out ages ago. It is nothing short of amazing. I used an aluminum level, sprayed the edge with 3M adhesive and stuck sandpaper to it, then marked the fret crowns with a Sharpie. Worked like a charm. I did pony up for the StewMac fret crown tool and the little polishing guards, but otherwise did the job with what I had laying around the garage. It really made an incredible difference. 3 Quote

velorush Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I look at the StewMac website the way I used to look at the Sears Wishbook at Christmas. I keep intending to buy a set of nut files from Philadelphia Luthier Supply (I think that's what it's called), but I... Oh, look. Squirrel! 1 1 Quote
