PSA - Hamer Sunburst & Possible Scam

Saw this on Reverb, and I think it may be a scam. If the poster turns up here and says otherwise, or someone else can confirm otherwise, I will update to reflect that.

Unless I'm off my rocker, I think this is an 81, not a mid 90s. And I think that is the enticement. "This guy doesn't know what he has!" You make an offer and think you got a steal. Then god knows what if anything shows up. 

I just find the incorrect dating and the 0 reviews very suspect.

Zero feedback/history and the only guitar for sale is suspect... 90's?... or 81?... either way, too bad cuz that surely is a purdy guitar... at least it's on Reverb for a sense of protection👍🏼

Not exactly a scammer price for an '81 Special.  

The "I don't know what I have" ploy wouldn't include an all-the-money asking price.

Great photos though... easy fix but for $2K?.. unfortunately, a little deeper indentation on back of neck than I would like 😬

I would expect to see a price of about half that on a scam.
"Oh, I don't know what I have... Can you give me $900 for it?" and then everyone falls over each other trying to snag it.

Or maybe that's the genius of this scam...

I got snagged on something kind of similar four years ago and read up a bit on it afterward. There are definitely smarter ones out there who offer just enough under what you might expect to not look suspect and accept offers for even less. 

This may really be someone who doesn't know much about guitars just trying to get rid of it; no clue. But it reminded me enough of that situation to mention it here. I'd hate for someone to see it, offer $1500, think they scored an old Hamer, and then get a snowglobe in the mail.

It could just be the seller doesn't know Hamers and got the year wrong.  

$2000+ for an '81 Special isn't a great price.

Definitely could be that he got it wrong. This was more of a caution light than an Indictment.
