DyersEve Posted August 23, 2025 Posted August 23, 2025 I have a '93 USA Hamer Centaura in granite finish, rosewood board in pristine and stock condition. JB in bridge, SL-1 neck and middle. I would like to know if position 2 (half of JB and middle pickup is hum canceling. I do get hum canceling in position 4 (middle and neck pickups). I'm asking because I have an Ibanez Prestige AZ2204 H-S-S. Position 2 is hum canceling. Quote
RobB Posted August 23, 2025 Posted August 23, 2025 Does it hum in position two? If it does, it is not hum cancelling. 6 Quote

Jimbilly Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 there's plenty more of that around here! "position 2" on my '90 Centaura really seems to be both halfs of the humbucker and the middle pup, so I can't say about yours. My ibanez slm10 (hss) seems to split the hum on pos-2, and makes some significant hum there compared to just the humbucker, - so that info is probably no help (really really nice guitar btw). 1 Quote
holLoWskull Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 In “as wired from the factory” stock form position 2 on a Centaura (with passive pickups) was not wired to be hum cancelling (you’re getting both coils of the JB mixed with the SSL-1 middle). If you’re handy with a soldering iron you could easily connect the red and white wires from the humbucker to the position 3 lug on the other side of the 5-way blade switch and run a ground wire from the common lug on that same side of the switch to a volume or tone pot casing and you’ll have hum cancelling in position 2. 4 1 Quote
