Jimbilly Posted March 10 Posted March 10 That's just not necessary imo, there's so many good pickups out there, including what they're putting in the newer Epi Lps. My 'new' Studio Custom has Duncan '59s (chrome covered), I find them to be pretty bright, the only guitar I've turned the tone knob down about half and left it there. A local friend and I A/B'd the studio custom with a LTD I have that has DiMarzio 36th anniv PAFs, with his R8, and his older Studio Custom with the 59/JB combo. We agreed they were largely similar (other than the brightness of the Duncans, which can be explained a few ways, and is easily tamed). I'd be happy with any of the above mentioned, including the Epis. 2 Quote

Disturber Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I always liked the Duncan 59. It is one of my favourite neck pickups. I remember when I was 14, in 1983, and had saved up to buy a new 59 bridge. Wish I still had that pickup. I put it in my strat and thought my tone was smokin'. I have a very early 1980's set in a drawer. Butyrate bobbins, long legs. I haven't decided which guitar to put them in. As for a anniversary set like this. I say why not. It's cool. I mean you are not force to buy them. I guess it's for the Duncan fans. If you just want a 59 there are plenty used out there. I wonder if they are potted? This store sells unpotted 59's. I wanted to try one for a long time: https://www.specialtyguitars.com/seymour-duncan-humbuckers.html 1 1 Quote

Thanks. 2 Quote
