fender neck id help?

Question

Posted

'89?  kind of odd with the thin rosewood board, 'bullet' truss adjust at the head stock, - serial must have been on the neck plate, 3 bolt neck. Velorush suggested that the fretboard may not be original, I got this from Lynn Ellsworth about 25 years go, he may have replaced the fretboard

I can't seem to load photos, I'll keep trying

The requisite photos:

I suggested the ebony fretboard might not be original due to the glue residue on the butt end and given the provenance, a distinct possibility.

I searched for possibilities of 80's Strats with ebony fretboards (sans markers) and found nothing. AI suggested the Elite Strat, but all of those I've ever seen had markers.

Just posting a stream of consciousness:

So we have a neck "dated '89," ebony board with no markers (I contend not original), micro-tilt provision and what appears to be a large headstock and 70's logo (both decidedly not 1989). The decal does not include the "Original Contour Body" patent number but conversely doesn't include "Made in USA" or the guitar serial number. Gold around "Fender" is earlier 70's IIRC - my S9 BITD was plain black.

Another caveat, that neck date, if 1989, should be a stamp, not handwritten.

The red stamp looks more like the 70's stamp format. If it's "09 03 03 53" that should equate to 09 = Strat, 03 = maple fretboard, 03 = third week 5 = 1975, 3 = Wednesday.

Need to see the bottom of the end - is it three-bolt?

Anyone else?

I bet it's a Lynn Ellsworth/Boogie Bodies made neck

to my knowledge: he never did ink stamping like that, serial always dent-stamped into the back of the neck hidden in the pocket, all his truss rod adjusters were early style at the heel / neck pocket, and I've never seen a 3 bolt or 70s headstock BB.

If I could figure out how to add photos..., there's also a faintly stamped ARMENTA near the micro tilt route.

Email it to me and I'll get it on here.

My bet is it is as the red stamp shows, an early 1975 maple fretboard neck that they upgraded with an ebony, markerless fretboard.

If you have it, email a picture of the bottom of the butt end so we can see if it was originally a three or four-bolt neck. I'm guessing three.

I am even more convinced of my original contention. 1975 maple neck with marker-less ebony fretboard added in July of 1989.

Wahappen to de  bullit?

It got swapped to another guitar that needed one quite some time ago (can't remember exactly which/when), I think the truss rod is still ok
