FS: 1996 USA Daytona

Since I just sold my black '97 Cruise to Bob via this forum (tho I answered his post, not vice versa), I might as well post my '96 USA Daytona which I am also ready to sell.

This Daytona was really dirty with a lot of oxidized parts and the white hardware was nasty. It's a black guitar with a white MOTO pickguard, so I put black pickup covers, knobs, and switch tip on it. It looks pretty cool. I took off all of the bridge saddles and oiled the parts. There is still some rust, but everything works smoothly. There are a few spots of surface wear on the maple fretboard, and a couple of spots where the lacquer wore on the fretboard edge (one I touched up), but the frets are in fine shape.

One really nice thing about this guitar is its resonance, tone, and playability. It is an excellent guitar that is easily the match of, and probably superior to, Fender Strat Plus or American Deluxe guitars. It may not have quite the cosmetics, but it is a superb playing and sounding guitar. It does have locking Sperzels like a Strat Plus.

There is a lot of surface wear on this guitar in the form of dings, dents, scuffs, scratches, hazed parts, but the wear and tear is in the finish, not through it. No bare wood on this guitar.

The Hamer case is pretty torn up on the outside, though all latches are fine and it is structurally sound. I used black duct tape on some of the areas to cover the bare wood and hold the vinyl/leather down and protect it from further tearing.

The weight is nice: 7 pounds, 6 ounces. It has classic Hamer resonance and sustain, and it is a good player, set up with '10's. The bridge is tightened down, but the trem bar comes with it (new black tip to match the other parts, too!)

At $450 including shipping plus any PayPal fee, it isn't a steal. But I think it is a fair price for a really good guitar and I have done enough business with HFC members over the years to have some reputation as an honest seller.

I will work on getting some pictures.

I wish I had the cash, but I have to go one at a time on guitars at the moment.

For those who don't know, Paul is a class guy to deal with.

I requested some pics as well. Send em to me at stevefinch101 at hotmail dot com. or post em here. What is the profile of the neck?

I emailed pictures to Steve, and will gladly do so for anyone else who supplies me with an email address. I have a dozen pictures, and that might be a bit much to try to post here.

The neck profile is not skinny, but it isn't chunky either. I have had Daytonas with fatter necks. How is that for a precision answer?

+1 on Pastor Paul-great guy to deal with!

The pics look much better than what he is describing. I would go ahead and at least post a few of those pictures up here. It is a nice looking piece.

I have decided to pass since I am building a parts strat right now and thought I might stop mid build but I have thought better of it. I sure hope my parts strat comes out good. I will probably end up kicking myself for not buying this one.

They used a matched set of Seymour Duncan Alnico II pu's - they're great!

No prob - if you need a little more punch in the bridge position... I opted for a Dimarzio Fast Track 2 - it really gives a great humbucker rock sound in a single coil space - really! I mean, I was ready to route that thing for a humbucker but I'm glad I gave this one a shot first!

Hi, Jorge!

How are things down there? Winter? I hope your family is well.

I was in Honduras during the World Cup. It was on TV everywhere I went in Latin America.... where there was a TV! I don't think I saw your national team, though. :D

Pastor Paul, the Daytona arrived today. Kudos for a great packing job and the sale receipt is a nice touch. Muchas gracias!

Can't say enough good things about dealing with Paul.

This Daytona has a very cool relic'd-for-real vibe. Will post pics shortly. Yehaw...I love this place!
