The Triple Threat

The current Monaco Elite question got me thinking.

Where are all the guys with the Triple Threats?

Has it been a year since they were out (or longer)?

What is your opionion of them now versus when you first purchased it?

I haven't played one and haven't seen anyone really talking about them anymore so, I am curious.

How do they rate compared to your other Hamers or other guitars?

Did the neck angle make that big of a difference?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

I had one. It was beautlful and sounded great but the neck profile tapered to very large in the upper registrers. It was too noticable of a taper for me, but otherwise a very nice guitar.

I've had a triple threat for about a year. Its design features were probably to make it apeal to LesPaul guys. Being a Les Paul guy I love it. Its not as heavy sounding as an Gibson R9 historic, but it excells in other ways. I like the double cut body, its more comfortable to me than my Les Pauls are. The neck is just about perfect, again from my perspective. Workmanship, fretboard, nut, etc all surpass Gibson. Its a keeper.

I had one for a few months. I loved the neck profile, loved the sound, the feel and the look, EXCEPT . . .

I just couldn't get past the victory inlays. I know they are just cosmetic and don't make any real difference, but to me they're like chrome wheel spinners on a '65 Mustang. Too bling and distractingly "import" looking. I asked for a Triple Threat with crowns - Jol said no.

Otherwise, I thought the TT was the best solidbody Hamer I've played.

I loved the whole idea, but also would have liked to have seen crowns on there. Of course, the Victories are what makes it more "Hamer"-like.

BTW - completely off topic...

My mother-in-law won a minty '65 Mustang ragtop in a raffle today. One ticket, $35.00. The crazy thing is that she had an identical '64 1/2 that she sold weeks before my wife's 16th birthday and regretted it ever since. Can't wait to check that one out on Wednesday, but I'll make sure she leaves the spinners off!

Hey Dave. Why didn't you have Greg put some crown inlays in?

We actually discussed that. Ultimately, it was a more complicated, time-consuming and expensive procedure than I wanted to go through. Greg will absoluletly not do a job like that half way, so we're talking about pulling the frets which requires removing the binding, etc.

Why not just get some stick-ons then? :)
